Toddler, the [ADMIN EDIT] link is bootleg software. Those of us who actually pay the $20 subscription to Sveasoft to insure we get input and support are very pleased with Sveasoft. I don't think it is ethical to steal the software and post on a mirror site.

I cetainly don't think its appropriate to post it in a forum. The issue of GPL and Sveasoft will wind up in court, I'm sure, but I believe Sveasoft is in the right.

Technically it is not bootleg or illegal. It is released under GPL. Because they say its under GPL when they give it to their subscribers, that subscriber can then give it to whoever they want to. Sveasoft doesn't follow this or believe this, hence the conflict. You are paying $20 for support and forum access, and a dedicated location to download the software from. But because its GPL you can then distribute it to whoever you want to. There is better support available elsewhere and for free. There is also a branch of the alchemy firmware being developed for free and outside of sveasoft. This is perfectly legal and Sveasoft knows about it. You can find it at http://www.dd-wrt.com/

The guy who runs Sveasoft is a major tool. He spends most of his time threatening people with lawsuits when he has no ground to stand on.

As I mentioned in my earlier post, there is some grounds for different interpretation on the GPL points and I suspect it will end up in court someplace.

I don't see the point in developing software that you then must give away for free but there are those who subvert the intent of GPL. Their "Stable" versions of the product are posted for free download once certified.

In any case, the new Sveasoft product which is coming in the form of a product named Talisman should be totally non-GPL accessible. Seemingly developed from scratch, it will download modules directly from Sveasoft and thus be accessible only to licensed parties. Hopefully, that will put an end to the efforts of the overzealous GPL proponents.

No one has a problem with them selling it. The problem arises with what they do to people that pay the $20 to get access to the firmware. According to GPL those people can then distribute it as long as it is all in one piece. Sveasoft finds these people and threatens them with lawsuits. These folks have done nothing wrong and are completely within the GPL to redistribute it for free.

I say let them go fully commercial with Talisman. I welcome it, then all those "customers" of theirs will really see what the company is made of. That also means they cannot use the original Linksys firmware as their base. They also can't use any other GPL'd code. They aren't going to do that, but they will try to do that. As far as I'm concerned their firmware is extremely bloated and extremely buggy. It just doesn't work well. They'll get whats coming to them.

The beauty of capitalism. Kinda like the Voip companies I guess. If they don't provide quality for long enough or have decent customer service, people will move on to something else.
