I am in the typical position you read about here -- number transfer was requested on Feb. 1 with all the requisite paperwork; 20 business days were passed last week, and I contacted Vonage customer service again and got the response that they were sorry and that they are resubmitting to the carrier with a request to expedite the transfer. I know that some people have had much longer waits, but does this step alone help for some people?

The request was apparently resubmitted on 3/4, so it's early yet, but I'm wondering if I need to bug them a lot more. After reading a number of forum posts, I'm still scratching my head as to why this is so hard. Is it because my carrier is hanging on to the number for as long as they can?

Finally, does anyone know whether SBC in Austin, TX, is a problem area for LNP?

Thanks!

I inquired with Vonage about my number transfer (after they resubmitted and asked the carrier to "expedite" it last week). Here was the response:
----------------------------------------
We have not received an update from our carrier as of yet.

We will certainly contact you as soon as we receive updated information
as to when your number transfer will be completed.
----------------------------------------

So can they do nothing other just resubmit and wait?

My story is the same as many others, including sidsub's. Been waiting for a port since Feb 1st, 2005. Have been in contact with Vonage customer service who, to their credit, gave me a one month rebate and promised to escalate the issue.

Also called SBC Texas who flat out refused to entertain any questions on the LNP issue, most likely because Texas and SBC are in a squirting contest with Vonage over 911 and network usage.

I care little about SBC's or Texas' problems with Vonage, I knew the deal going in and SBC's rates are unforgivable. That being said I am still waiting....

Today I faxed a complaint to the Texas Public Utilities Commission with my finger pointing firmly at SBC. SBC MUST honor the port request from Vonage according to the FCC, though in reality I will be surprised if they ever do.

A Vonage customer service rep told me that Vonage has numbers in the 512 service area, at this point I am seriously considering a new phone number. We'll see what the next couple of weeks bring.

I have had my completed request in since Jan 11th. And waiting patiently, and that is fading. I finally made a complaint to the Texas PUC online. Vonage has stated they are expediting the request but it looks like they are expediting everyones, so no gain there.

I also am in limbo waiting on a LNP out of SBC Austin. My request went in Feb 16. Several emails to numbertransfer@vonage.com has gotten a "We have resubmitted your order to the carrier." response. I will take their word at it. I assume that SBC is dragging their feet. I think VonTageGal explained it best in another thread, i.e. how many people and how much extra effort do you think SBC is going to apply to porting numbers and customers out?

I will cool my jets for another few days and then will probably do the following:
1. Call SBC and see if I can get any information at all about my transfer.
2. Probably do the Texas PUC thing right at SBC just out of shear frustration and ignorance on my part.

PostPosted: Mon Apr 11, 2005 9:07 pm    Post subject: A new "Order" has appeared on my SBC account Reply with quote Back to top

I was feeling macabre this evening so I decided to look at my SBC account to see if there was any sign of life over there and to my surprise a strange new "order" has appeared for my account.

With one eye closed I took a closer look and as of April 11th an "order" for some kind of "service" has been placed against my number with a completion date of April 26th

At this point I was vibrating so hard I nearly fell out of my chair so I took an even closer look to see if I could perhaps ascertain the nature of this mysterious new order but alas, no more detail remained.

Could this be the actual port in progress? The Vonage account shows no new information, but perhaps they will tomorrow. I suppose pessimism is a safe bet at this point, for all I know an SBC truck will roll up to the curb tomorrow and install a phone jack in the dog house, but maybe, just maybe....something is good is about to happen?

Well I'll be . . .

Following sterog's lead I went and checked my SBC account online. What do you know - there is an order that was entered 4/8 and the due date is 4/19. This was not an order from my end so I can only assume that it must be related to Vonage LNP.

Thanks for the tip sterog, I never would have thought to look at my SBC account, duh! I am actually porting over one of two SBC lines as an experiment. This line is in my office. If this goes OK I will port the main line. The other benefit of checking my account online is seeing, one more time, how obscene our SBC monthly bill is!!

I will update this thread as progress is made. No word from Vonage yet on any of this.

Author Edit: I went back and checked my records. I had sent Vonage email on 3/23 asking for status on my LNP. My only other communicatoin with them was last week on 4/8 when I sent them another email (numbertransfer@vonage.com) referencing my ticket #. This date exacty coincides with the SBC order date. Humm . . .

Which probably explains why it took so long for the little old lady to look at & enter the request in the first place and why it would take another 11 days to process it. Smile Everyone blames Vonage for all the delays! Confused I'm absolutely NOT absolving Vonage of all the blame but there are usually 2 sides to every story.

I hope you're right vtex, my SBC San Antonio account shows the same kind of order. If it's true, I'm very lucky. I submitted my LNP on 4/3, the SBC order submitted on 4/6 and due on 4/18. I'll update tomorrow.

I have noticed via this forum that SBC Texas seems to have become much more responsive in regards to LNPs within the last two weeks. You have to believe that this turnaround is related to the legal squabbling going on between Vonage, SBC and Texas. No doubt the SBC higher ups have sent down marching orders that they need to clean up their own house so as not to give Vonage anything to squak about. I'm not a black helicopter type but the timing is just too compelling,

Seems like now is a great time to port numbers from SBC Texas. I cringe to think what will happen to LNP's if Vonage prevails in the legal actions with SBC. Cry
