I found this article I am not sure how true this is but I have been with Vonage for almost 3 yrs and all of a sudden i am starting to get Dropped calls, Caller Id is not working all the time and now I am getting static in the line.

I know this is not vonages fault. But if this is true Vonage is going to have to come up with a work around, to mask the data going out.

here is the link to the Article that I found.

Some people love one stop shopping, but me personally I prefer the best deal. Comcast needs to focus on what thy currently have an stop jumping in to all these other markets.

That's just my two cents

I don't believe Comcast is causing you problems. Network congestion might be the issue or a faulty terminal adapter. I've been on Comcast for 2 years and have absolutely perfect Vonage service.

The methods listed in the article above about using VLANS and different QoS for Comcast's own Voip traffic is fine. Nothing there to sabotage others until the network traffic starts peaking. At that point, Comcast's own Voip will have precedence on their private vitrual lan.

Run the Voip speed test from this web site and see what it says. If you have an older modem like the RCA or Toshiba piece of crap, get Comcast to trade them out for you. Since the Comcast speed upgrades, many of the older modems have quit working properly.

I second that!

I had a 3com 'sharkfin' modem and was having problems with Vonage (random 10 sec dropouts). The problem got noticeably worse with the Comcast speed upgrade. I finally got around to calling Comcast and they readily admitted that some of the older modems were having problems. It was quick and easy to get a new modem from them in return for the old one (They owned the modem). Getting the new Motorola Surfboard modem registered was a problem but their support person was decent.

Long story short: It works perfectly now. I had suspected everything from Comcast's service to my router, but this was the culprit.

What proof do you offer that it is poor connectivity that is causing your problems? That is what you're implying when you say you're having dropped calls. It could also be packet loss. The packet is constructed in the phone adapter after the analog to digital converter stage. Received packets are disassembled and sent to the digital to analog converter. This is the very basic level of it.

One can not troubleshoot a problem by pointing fingers and making assumptions. http://www.dslreports.com "Tests+Tools" have a host of programs to help discover exactly what you want to know. For instance, the tweak test will tell you where and how many packets are being lost if any. The problem might even be a full cache on your computer. You have to do the work.

If I remember right, your phone adapter will be replaced by Vonage if it goes bad. As to Comcast, I'm stuck with them too. I don't like them and I dislike their excuse for customer service even more. They are a terrible company, but I can't find anything wrong with their upstream or downstream speed nor their connectivity.

Do the tests. Clean up your computer. Tweak whatever is required from DSLReports.com and I have no doubt that you will increase the Qos of your system.

I had the same exact problem. My 3COM 'sharkfin' modem was experiencing the 10 sec dropouts. (I thought I was the only one still using that modem)........... .I switched to MOTO SB5100....... Has been stable ever since

I was experiencing a seemingly more and more common problem of periodically the person on the other end of the phone call could not hear my voice for 10-15 seconds, and then it would be ok. I had used the toshiba pcx1100 for 3 years and after reading others report similar problems with this modem, decided to swap it with the motorola sb5100. For 3 weeks, we have had NO ISSUES WHATSOEVER! Clearly the problem was with the modem. Anyone else who has the pcx1100 and is wondering what the problem is, look no further.

This will not be the first time I have posted this.

We have clearly seen a history of member postings on this forum from Comcast ISP users who receive the "Comcast Upgrade" and then seem to have near fatal issues with their Vonage service.

They also seem to have issues with our VoIP Speed Test

This is a disturbing pattern.

Comcast has had probleems twice this week nation wide. The first time, last Friday involved comcast internal DNS issues. Many folks merely switched to public DNS servers. Tonight, another problem nationwide has not yet been explained, but symptoms are similar. These issues are being discussed in the newsgroup
alt.online-service.comcast
at this time.
