I would like to thank the Vonage Reps and everyone else who take the time to check out and respond to the messages on this forum! From what I can gather I think this is a privately run forum and your just volunteering your help. If I'm wrong, you still deserve a big hug! I'm sure your help is appreciated, but not recognized nearly enough. Way to go, I love Vonage's VOIP service!
If someone on the Forum (Vonage employee or not) helped you get your service working, please take a moment and type in a thank you. It always feels good to hear something good, as all customer service is usually bad things.

Matt -
I wholeheartedly agree. These guys are able to get things done for those of us on the forum. They sometimes help us to cut through the red tape.
SSantana was able to help me replace my old Cisco ATA's with newer terminal adapters when I could not get them to answer my email.
Their service and dedication is greatly appreciated.

I have said it before and I will say it again. The indivduals on this site who take the time to help us deserve a huge thanks. Without them a lot of us would be in the dark with many issues. |

any product that requires volunteer support to keep people from going nuts ought to be FREE! |

Perhaps the current incarnation of VOIP providers isn't the best choice for everyone. Paying 2-3 times as much for POTS is still a good alternative for those. |

You'd prefer to pay for support (like for example cars)? |

Well said. A major computer operating system company comes to mind as well. You call their support and enter your credit card number and THEN hold. |

Bad example - how about my cable service provider - FREE, my webhosting company free, my cell phone - FREE - we're talking about monthly services not products.
And regarding paying 2-3 times for POTS - depends on how you look at it. I was paying about $5 per month more for POTS. I didn't spend a single second of my time on configuration or support calls. Between Friday and Sunday I spent more time with Vonage than my entire life with POTS. |

I disagree that we are only talking about services and not products. Isn't your adapter a product? Many of the solutions people are getting from this site involve custom networking configurations or recent quality problems with adapters.
However there are plenty of examples of paid support for services including the one mentioned previously. Ask the phone company or the cable company to come out to your house and see how often they will do it for free.
Vonage can't control your network equipment or your ISP. VOIP may end up being sold like satellite equipment, you can buy it off the shelf, but for the same price you can have a professional come out and get it working. If you later need changes made, you are going to have to pay the professional come back out and make those changes if you can't do it yourself. So yes, the alternative to Vonage's current free phone support may end up being paid installers.
This group provides resources for people who can do it themselves and choose to. Just as a car club might provide resources for people who would rather work on their own car than take it to a mechanic. |
