Based on some favorable comments posted here, I purchased a Uniden TRU8065 cordless phone in January. It has worked great, until a few weeks ago.

A couple of times a week, the base station will lose power. I had to pull the power cord out of the back and replug. It boots up but the handset discharges back to 1 bar of power. It did this a few more times over the next few weeks and I called Uniden. They suggested NOT plugging it into a power bar (which it was) as it cannot draw enough power. They also said plugging the power back in made it think it was charging the handset all over again, which was why the handset went back to 1 bar of power.

So I plugged the phone into an extension cord (with nothing else on it) and directly into the wall outlet.

This morning - it died again. But this time it booted back up by itself. And, again, the handset reverted back to 1 bar.

Another call to Uniden - this time they had me go through a manual reset of the base station. If this didn't work they said to exchange it at the store, as it was most likely a fault on the circuit board or something.

My question is - have any other Uniden users experienced this and could the PAP2 somehow be scrambling the phone? TIA.

I would say that it is possible, but very unlikely. The voltage being supplied through the phone port may be too high. You would need a test/butt set or a voltage meter with a jumper to check the voltage coming out of the PAP2.

I would see if you could exchange the Phone. I use a Uniden trueclear as well with no problems.

I have the Tru8060 (I think that's the model) and use the PAP2 and haven't had any issues. I agree with the previous poster...I would try to exchange it for a new phone and see if that fixes it.

UPDATE: I exchanged the phone and let charge for a full 24 hours. Everything ok for 3 days then - zap. Base station shows welcome screen and handset discharges down to 1 bar. Damn.

I find it highly unlikely that I'd get 2 defective units so now I have to look at my setup. I'm suspecting something with the actual physical action of putting the phone back in the cradle. When it zapped this time that's what I was doing - although other times it has done it on it's own.

I am using an Apple Airport Extreme Base Station. It is about 4 feet from the phone base station. The phone itself is plugged into an extension cord directly into the wall outlet. There is nothing else on the line. As a last resort I'm going to try to separate these 2 units. Maybe it's just not going to work with my setup. I need to have the phone on my desk. If I can't then I'll just have to return the phone.

Phone returned (again) -went to Unidens site and saw this ...

http://www.uniden.com/productpop/00_productpop.cfm?prd_code=UIP1868

Sketchy details. Wonder what makes it a "special" Voip phone, other than you can add up to 10 handsets.

I think that is just marketing hype. Looks like a standard cordless phone with the capacity to handle multiple handsets to me.

I suspect the marketing trolls at Uniden think that calling it a "VoIP Phone" is going to sell more of them.

I think that it incorporates the phone adapter into the actual base of the phone.
