My question is.. What will this mean for the consumer?
The right to pick our own area codes? No rules against local calling areas?
Taxes? Is
Vonage
no longer obligated to pay those goofy fees like normal telephone companies do? Or is all the above correct?
From what little I have read about the ruling.. The wording seemed to say "This is a young industry.. Voice over IP technology has a long way to go.. So lets wait a little longer and see.."
I see a couple of long distance carriers are starting unlimited long distance plans.. Qwest has a plan in my area $30.00 unlimited. I called Qwest customer service, they couldn't tell me what taxes and fees are added onto the bill. I figure if they couldn't tell me, I'm not going to sign up.. Either way.. My
Vonage
service is cheaper than what they could offer. I hope more pressure gets put on the Telcos to lower fees. I feel they have been overpricing consumers for many years.
