I was on hold waiting for Vonage tech support and after 30 minutes on hold I got disconnected (I was calling to have my packet size dropped to see if I can get my DirecTivo R10 receiver to connect). I saw my network connection show unplugged in my system tray and my Comcast cable modem never disconnected so the problem lies in my Linksys RT31P2.

I read in another thread to set my Voice QoS to 512. After making that change I try calling tech support again. This time after 35 minutes on hold I got disconnected again. Same thing, my RT31P2 disconnecting me.

If this isn't resolved I'm off to Packet8. It's a shame, I like the quality of service when I'm connected, but I can NOT keep the service if I constantly have to worry about being disconnected in the middle of a call.

Is there a man behind the curtain? I have the same problem with that box... the linksys router they send from Vonage directly doesn't seem have the problem I have both.

THERE ISN"T anybody at Vonage tech support.. I'm convinced they are on a drinking binge or something.. It's really frustrating to get a hold of anyone.. I've never spoken to any humans there. three subsequent hold times of over 30 minutes each a week a part and I gave up also. I've found the best solution is to order directly another box and cancel the service on the other number. Of course if you are married to the number you are in trouble as I am one of my Vonage lines. Come on Vonage. Do something about your tech support. Implement call back or something. It's really upseting.

I was on hold for over an hour (with my POTS line of course) at MIDNIGHT my time before I gave up. I can't believe they're that busy so late at night. I searched this forum more trying to find a solution. I found that if you turn off the UPnP that it may help. I did that and I then called tech support again for another 30 minute hold fiasco before I gave up but I wasn't disconnected. We'll see if this fixes it. That SHOULDN'T cause the router to disconnect randomly though. Flawed.

Now that I have to have UPnP off, I can't figure out how to get my Azureus to work right. It needs port 6881 open so I put that port in the range for port forwarding and I still get a NAT error in Azureus, and I don't with UPnP on. Any light on this please? Thanks.

Hi, you mean the yellow light, right? Do you know how to take the yellow light off?

What I'm talking about is I'm doing the configuration wizard..when I get to the point where I can test the incoming TCP listen port, it says NAT error. When I had UPnP on it said OK immediately. Now it hangs and then says NAT error. I tried to set up port forwarding with no luck.

My router had been resetting like crazy and I noticed that the rt31p2's operating temperature is slightly hotter than the other linksys routers im using. Out of curiousity, I placed an external computer fan on top of the router and presto no more disconnections for the past week. I tried calling the help desk using the Vonage to tell them my problem but gave up after 1 hour. At least it did not disconnect. Im using default/factory settings and the rt31p2's wan port is currently piggybacked to 1 of my linksys befsr81's ethernet port which then connects to the DSL modem. So far no problems no disconnections. Hope this solves your problems. btw was told by Vonage that the unit is defective and will have this replaced. The router is still running with the external computer fan on top of it.

Good find! Sounds like the unit is defective, or you have it installed in a very hot environment.

When I got the rt31p2 1st time round, I initially placed it alongside the other linksys routers im using wrt54g and befrs81 and it was running ok. Just to make things tidy, I stacked the 3 routers one on top of the other with the rt31p2 on the top and I noticed that the rt31p2 started to reset like crazy without me doing anything and calls would get disconnected. Took the rt31p2 out of the stack, reset the unit and let it stand separately from the stack and it started to work again but not consistently. It still had disconnection problems every so often. I accidentally discovered that it started to work without problems when I placed the unit alongside an external fan. When I turned off the fan, give it a few minutes and the rt31p2 will end up resetting like crazy. Put the fan back on again, the rt31p2 goes back working fine. BTW, I work in a controlled room temperature enviroment and there are no unusual heat source close to rt31p2 when i was configuring it except for the heat from the stack of routers. Vonage did email me to tell me its defective and will have it replaced. When that is the question.

I'll admit to this world I'm a total newbie and cast aside my pride for some help. I'm in Massachusetts, I've got Charter cable and Vonage and I'd like to use Azureus to do some P2P. I've got the Linksys RTP300 and when I use Azureus I constantly cannot figure away to get higher download speeds and am frustrated with everything I read about NAT errors. I'd just like some basic help to try and get some directions on how to open up a port or whatever to get rid of the NAT error. I'm on Windows XP Service Pack 2 and I'm hoping someone will take some mercy on me who knows what they're talking about and has some time to educate a newbie. I've also got a sygate firewall up as well if that helps. Thanks all.

I have exactly the same "stack" that you do, except I put the WRT54G on top so the antennas were not partially behind the RT31P2. I didn't have disconnection problems, but after running the stack for a few days, I wasn't comfortable with how hot the units seemed to be getting.

Not sure if you can see it in my avatar picture or not, but I took a standard PC case fan and placed it beside the stack, so it actually pulls air out from the gaps between the units and exhausts it all. Now, all three units are running so cool that they're barely warmer than room temp to the touch. Attach the fan with a couple of strips of velcro, and it doesn't even look that bad - black fan against black cases.
