Even though my ISP has had some difficulty over the last 3 days, my Vonage service has improved dramatically. I can now use the phone as a regular phone, without the worry of clipped audio or disconnects. So, was there a change at Vonage? My ISP hasn't changed, in fact they said today that they will be doing upgrades later this month as they are reaching network saturation.

Aaaaaannnnnnnd tonight we are back to audio clipping. Ah well. Likely it's my ISP causing the problem this time. Hopefully they will upgrade their equipment soon.

I have Comcast. In my area they upgraded to where I can pay an additional $10 and get 6.0mbps download and 784 (i believe) kbps upload. It made quite the difference in my Vonage calls as the upload doubled from what I had before. Hope your upgrade goes smoothly and you get great quality calls from it.

Er. I have used my father's DSL lite with 256/128 for my Vonage phone when I'm visiting him and it works just fine. I'll grant you that you can't start moving 100MB files around while you're on the phone but I'm thinking 6MB is a bit much.

On paper, Comcast's regular 4/384 should offer more than enough bandwidth for Vonage, and the occasional dropouts are more of a latency issue. But of the guys I know on Comcast with Vonage, they all upgraded to 6/768 out of frustration with Vonage issues, and they all claim it made a real difference. Personally I've been holding out because that turns Vonage into a $35/month service, and 4/384 should work just fine. But if something doesn't get better in a hurry, I guess I'll have to give it a go myself.

All you need for Vonage to work is about 12K/sec ... this is about 2-3 56k modem connections.

The reason people have such bad problems is ISP's!!! Packet loss, bad signal, latency. All of this is undetectable just downloading files and talking on AIM but when you start sending packet after packet after packet you will run into problems.

Well, it's back to being normal today. HAPPY!!!! Seems the service is slowly improving. If it keeps up like this, I'll disconnect from Verizon and AT&T in a month. I think that should be enough time to tell me if it is going to be reliable or not.

After running Vonage on my 3 meg./768k cable connection, my cable provider (small local co. called Community Cable) gave me a free month of 6 meg./1 meg. service. While I noticed a pretty signifcant difference on the computer download rates, we didn't notice any difference at all on the phones. In fact when they disabled it after the trial period was over, neither my wife or I noticed a thing till like 10 days later I remembered & ran the speed test again. So back to 3 meg./768k & still no issues.

My Results
Download 2,914,992 bps
Upload 793,808 bps
QOS 99%
RTT 90 ms
MaxPause 16 ms
