I took the Vonage router out of the case installed it plugged everything in and no dialtone. Then I tried to access 192.168.16.1 and no response. I call Vonage Customer service and he told me that my phone battery was dead. Now you and I both know that the Vonage csr was lying to get me off the phone but what I want to know is what can i try to do to get this working. Any suggestions would be appreciated

Please answer a few questions so we can be more helpful:

What phone adapter did you get? Did you buy it, or did Vonage send it to you?

Please describe your network/internet configuration, ie: What type of broadband connection, what routers, switches, firewalls, etc you may have and what order they are connected in. For example, my setup is:

Cable-Toshiba Cable Modem-Linksys WRT54G Wireless Gateway-Linksys RT31P2 Phone Adapter

I think the router ip access is 192.168.15.1 not 16.1 What lights do you have on the router and how are you set up?

mbell: I am a Vonage newbie also. I followed the Vonage instructions to the letter. I cut everything off; connected the cable modem line to the LINKSYS router, then connected computer and telephone to the LINKSYS. I turned the cable modem on and let it run for about two minutes or when all the lights are blinking. I then turned the LINKSYS on and let it run for 5 minutes as instructed. I then turned my computer back on and everything was functional. You can see the green lights come on when a particular phase is completed.

If you got the LINKSYS from Vonage, it should have been preprogrammed. I did no programming of my equipment at all except for setting up the telephone's programming.

The only thing I did differently is I put the Linksys(phone) they sent me behind the Linksys(wireless) I already had.

Try this:

1. Unplug the power to your cable modem and the RT31P2
2. Connect the RT31P2 directly to your cable modem
3. Plug in the power to the cable modem and wait for it to "lock down" (this should take a few seconds to a minute or so)
4. Plug in the power to the RT31P2, wait five minutes - the device will probably download the latest firmware.
5. Check for dialtone and place a test call

If this works, then try to put it behind your WRT54GS if you wish. If that doesn't work, try a factory reset on the WRT54GS.

If no avail, maybe the RT31P2 didn't get provisioned properly and you can call Vonage.

I tried that but I'll do it again for my own sanity. I also told Vonage CSR this he insists everything is working properly and that I need a new phone.

Hmm, did you try a simple corded phone pluged directly into the Line1 port? For giggles, did you also check the Line2 port?

If you did, get back on the horn - hopefully you'll get someone else that may have a different trick up their sleeve.
