Thanks, finally an explaination I can live with. Now to running the wires...
Not sure what all you need, but here goes: RT31P2 and a Motorola sb5100 Cable modem using Adelphia feed, I have a DELL 4100 with a Conexant HCF V90 56K RTAD Speakerphone PCI Modem
1394 Net Adapter
Intel(R) PRO/100 S Desktop AdapterBoard: Intel Corporation D815EEA AAA10383-403
Serial Number: MY02336V124640BS05XJ
I know you don't need all this ifo. but if you can help BIG thanks, if not how should I rephrase/post the question?

Have you got a single phone connected to your adapter or have you got it connected to the house phone wiring?

Have you tried connecting your Conexant HCF V90 56K RTAD Speakerphone PCI Modem to your adapter?

Stephen, I have a single line from the RT31HP2 going to my home's copper line. No, I have not tried the Conexant line to my adaptor. I assume you want me to plug it in to Line 2 on the back of the RT31P2? I'll wait for your reply as I don't want to "blow" anything.

No, it would need to be connected to line 1, as far as I know.

There are two possibilities here:

1) The adapter is somewhere else and you have a wall jack near the computer with Vonage dial-tone. Plug your modem into that jack and try it.

2) You have the adapter near the computer and you are using the wall jack to connect the Vonage adapter to the rest of the house.
a) Get a splitter, install it in the wall jack and connect the modem and your adapter to the splitter.
b) If the modem has two phone ports (wall & phone) connect the adapter to the wall port of your modem and then connect the phone port to your wall jack.

I won't have a chance to try out the config. till tonight..thanks for the help.
Yes, I know about the splitters, got one on line 1 now on the back of my router. Hey, can I run a 3X splitter out the back of the RT31P2?

Thanks Stephen, I did almost do the tie-in through the router but noticed my Panasonic Phone/Fax had an an Ext. Out plug, so I ran a line to the Phone/Fax on the back of my APC UPS Backup. The 5 year old BVRP Software went right to work. All's fine. Thanks again. Thomas.

Is that BVRP software still available somewhere?

There is a $29 package available from BVRP called Classic Phone Tools. Note that you will need a compatible voice modem installed to use the speaker phone features. This is the software that was shipped with Dell computers so I am fairly sure it is close to what the original poster is using.

This is not a softphone. It uses a voice modem to dial and answer calls using a standard (or Vonage) phone line.
