Having troubles now that I've got a Linksys RT31P2-VD connected to my broadband connection and also using my wireless Linksys router (BEFW11S4).

I have tried several combinations of wiring a port opening, but to no avail. Before getting the Voip router, things worked fine.

Currently, the cable modem is directly connected to the Voip router, and the wireless router is connected to that, so the Voip router comes first in the chain. The PC I want to Remote Desktop from has the 3389 port open, as well as the Voip router. The PC is connected via Ethernet to the Voip router. No matter which I connect it to, even with the right ports open, I can't connect via Remote Desktop.

Anyone have any ideas? Maybe I'm just missing a step with all the wires running around back there. Either reply here or to my email.

Thanks!

Although I do not have a solution for you, I only have my linksys phone router plugged into my modem. I did forward port 3389 and have no problems with remote desktop. Im sure someone will probably have an answer to this, but if not by tomorrow, I will hook up my wireless router to my phone router and experiment with it, and see if I can come to a solution. Good luck.

You never gave details on where the PC you are trying to connect to is located.

Depending on how you have your setup you may also need to forward port 3389 on the other router. Please let us know your setup.

this is how i have mine setup.
cable modem--->internet port on ATA
ATA internal static of 192.168.15.1
ATA just cause im lazy gives DHCP to my WIFI Router
port 1 on ATA to internet port on WIFI router.
WiFI router does DHCP to my two wifi computers.

Because i only have 2 computers that are always on i just left DHCP on, they automaticly renew their lease and it has not been an issue. for portforwading. my ATA forwards the port i.e 3389 for remote desktop to my wifi router, the wifi router then forwards to my pc.

Instead of forwarding port 3389 from the ATA to your Router, then from the router to the computer, why not just put your wireless router into the DMZ on your ATA?

Sorry bout some of that. The PC I want to connect TO is my main PC on my network. I connect to it from work and other places. I will try the DMZ trick, although I am not really familiar with DMZ and how it works. But I'll take a look soon (when I get home in an hour) and see if I can figure that part out).

What info on my setup do you need?

Also, if anyone has time on their hands and whatnot, I'm on Yahoo as bhuel1975 so feel free to message me there too. Real-time chat might be easier to follow.

I think the DMZ thing worked, once I re-plugged the PC directly into the ATA and not the wireless router, and enabled DMZ... I tested it from a laptop here at home. The true test will be tomorrow once I'm back at work! Thanks for your help!!

If I were you, once I got it to work using the DMZ setting, I'd go back and try to set it up with port forwarding to keep your computer safe from worms/virii/hackers. That port fowarding trick should be all you need to get remote desktop to work, once your network configuration is correct.
