Post subject: PPP connection using Null cable
I've connected my DirecTV w/ Tivo to my computer using the null cable via PPP. It seems to work (sending & receiving packets) but it fails to complete the negotiation. I've checked the set up as listed in this forum, but cant seem to get it to work. Can anyone shed some light on this? I'm connecting to the internet via D-link wireless router. I also have a VPN thats used so I can log on to my office. Is this causing a problem? Should I adjust any of the settings? Any help is appreciated.

I would try diabling your VPN in order to narrow things down. Are you sure you are using the correct prefix within Tivo? I also had issues in the begining and then added my personal account in addition to the guest account. After that, things worked fine.

I had something similar happen to me. A handful of packets flew back and forth and then... nothing. It eventually just failed. Turns out I needed to do two things -- 1) Assign a static IP for the Tivo (incoming call) and 2) put this IP address in the DMZ of my router. Once I did this, Tivo was able to connect successfully.
Don't know if this applies to you, but thought I would mention it just in case. Good luck!

Did you turn off any software firewalls? Mine won't work with ZoneAlarm on.
