I'm trying to work through the install issues with my new Vonage service before sending the LOA, and decided to tackle getting the dedicated fax line working today. My hp 5500 could send just fine, but only printed blank pages on received faxes. An older Brother fax would send/receive with no problems, most likely because of a lower baud rate. I understand the contention that Voip is designed for voice, not data, but Vonage advertises that their fax offering works with all fax machines. Hopefully these growing pains will pass. With Adelphia, my speeds average about 2Mbps down/275Kbps up, QoS runs around 30%, RTT 40ms and max pause 200ms. These numbers vary wildly through the day/week. Anyway, I stumbled across maasgarid's suggestion to try a reversed DSL filter (http://www.vonage-forum.com/ftopic1482.html), which gave me another straw to grasp. I didn't have a DSL filter handy, but did find the "2 wire phone cord adapter" that came with the unit. Since black magic and desperation are made for each other, it was worth a try. Installed correctly, I still got blank pages. Reversed the adapter and the images are received! Bizarre, because I am using a two wire cord. Woohoo for voodoo! Thanks for the inspiration, maasgarid! |

I also followed the Voodoo trail that cheywolf described and it worked just fine. Thanks for the post and the help! |
