I bought Vonage about 1 week ago, I tried connecting TIVO, it doesn't dial in. Is there a way to fix this. I was speaking to a Vonage rep that said getting Tivo to connect was 'very difficult, next to impossible". Why on your website does it say that "Many Vonage customers have been able to connect to tivo". Shouldn't you support tivo dial-up. It seems like an issue that is very common. When will this be resolved? I joined Vonage to get away from verizon, but not at the expense of not having Tivo. Tivo has priority.

I recommend you do a search on PPP and serial cable in the forum and go that route. I tried all the codes and having my packetization changed, but nothing worked. I went the serial cable route and it works great. FYI TIVO does not have to call in for it to work. It calls in for PPV information. You get all your guides and everything else from the dish.

Is it a standalone Tivo or DirecTivo? I have been successful in getting my DirecTivo unit to use my Vonage phone line. It does not work 100%, but enough to satisfy my daily call requirements. I'm using "*99," as a dialing prefix. I was told this gives a "heads up" that data call is about to take place, instead of a voice call.

I have had very good luck using a DSL Filter. Also, if you can get the phone numbers downloaded try using the 212 Area Code and the New York phone number. Works almost everytime for me. Don't worry about the long distance since you are using Vonage and it is free. Cool

Any chance that you have that number handy? I tried to dial in and get local numbers *before* switching to the Vonage line. Strangely my TiVo couldn't connect.

I borrowed a DSL filter from someone at work and will try that tonight as my Tivo Series 1 is not connecting.

BTW, not sure if this is the same thing but I used to work tech support for a dialup ISP so I tried using my iBook's modem to make a dialup test connection. That way I can hear the modems tones and possible renegotiation. Tried every bandwidth setting and tried *99. Even at 2400 baud it would not connect and sounded absolutely *horrible*. Didn't even sound close to actually connecting. I don't know if that means I'm out of luck or what.

I am beginning to wonder if the ATA has anything to do with this. I just posted somewhere else that I have no problems dialing out with my Tivo. All I do is just run the wire straight from my ATA to the tivo. This is without using any prefixes or filters. My ATA is a Cisco ATA 186.

I just had success (1 test call, 2 forced daily calls) using this method:
http://www.tivocommunity.com/tivo-vb/showthread.php?p=2634692&&#post2634692

I put the entire number in the prefix field as suggested since you can not get the list of numbers. You can check your dashboard as it is doing the call so you can see that it really only dials the number and doesn't use your set number that you can not change.

FYI: Hughes HDVR2 DTivo/TW Cable Western Ohio w/Earthlink as my ISP.

I setup my TiVo to update via a PPP over serial connection this weekend and it was surprisingly easy.

http://www.b-lan.com/otto/tivo3xp/

It's been mentioned before, so it's not like this is the first time. I basically gave up getting the TiVo modem to connect. This will work for me.

It works with ,#034 as the prefix, and dialing to the 1 212 271-7103.

I had to try it at least 20 times, but it eventually worked.
