I have Linksys RT31P2 Device adapter. I installed as explained in the "Installation with Router". Connected the Linksys phone adapter (Internet port) to my wireless router (LAN port). My wireless WAN port is connected to the cable modem. I did everything exactly as explained in the steps.
My phone still does not work. I have no dial tone. What am I missing. I wasted all day trying to call Vonage, but the customer service ****. It disconnects me after 10 minutes of hold time (happened at least 5 times since morning).
I have no landline now. Please help !!!

Try resetting modem, router and Linksys

I'vent had dialtone in my house ever since I started with Vonage last week of Feb. I too have a RT31P2 Linksys Broadband Router that Vonage sent me.

1. I tried the router in a standalone mode - i.e. directly connecting it to the Cable Modem, and then connecting one of the LAN ports to my PC. I also connected the PHONE jack to PHONE 1. I'm able to for a brief moment connect to 192.168.15.1 using my browser, but after that I loose connection and the power light keeps blinking. The phone light is one for exactly 1 minute and it dissappears.

2. I also tried connecting the RT31P2 to my wireless router BEFW1154. The wireless router is connected to the Cable Modem, and is also connected to my PC in addition to the RT31P2. I do get an IP address on my PC - so I know my cable modem is working fine. However, I see the same problem with the power light blinking constantly with no phone connection.

3. I've tried holding close to 2.5 hrs on my cell phone for Vonage support - with no avail - until today when I managed to get a voice on the other end. It turned out to be a sales rep :) He said he'd elevate it to Tier 2 support and that I'll be reached by the end of the day. No word as yet.

I suspect that the firmware in the box is faulty or corrupted. But, what do I do? This is very frustrating given that all we have is a cell and that we are still waiting for our number to be transferred!!

Any thoughts?

That could be it the firmware...maybe you need to reinstall the firmware. You can go to Linksys site and download the latest and then try to upload it.

Thanks for your reply. I tried the stand-alone approach (cable-modem to Linksys phone adapter and to my laptop LAN). I still do not get any light in both the phone ports.

BTW, Where do I download the latest firmware?

This is getting really frustrating. I haven't been able to contact any Vonage rep since morning (either I get disconnected or I get busy tone).

ninadtambe: what happens if you connect the Vonage device directly to the modem. just to confirm if it works at all. also, what do you have under status for the lines at http://192.168.15.1?
edit: whoops, I see you tried the first part. did you ever notice the blinking power light like vaghul? still interested in what the status page says.

vaghul: the power light blinks when it's updating the firmware. however, the firmware for the Vonage devices are not available from linksys.com, they are only pushed from Vonage. if you interrupted the firmware update, you may have killed your box.

Thanks everyone for their reply. It finally worked. I had to download the latest firmware for my adapter. I had to actually hold the reset button for more than 15 seconds for the firmware. Then I restarted the router and it worked fine.
Just as a side-note, I still cannot get the Cable Modem-Wireless Router-Linksys phone adapter configuration to work. I am currently happy with the Cable Modem-Linksys Adapter-Wireless Router configuration.

For the Cable --> Wireless Router --> Voip setup

Do not change any of the settings, however....

Cables run as follows.

Cable modem to WAN of router.
Lan of Router to WAN (Modem port) of Voip.

Essentually, the Voip works just like a computer then. You may also have to setup the router to allow certain ports to rout to the Voip.

The Down side to this setup is that you can not talk to the Voip unit.
The Positive side is that the Voip is not the main target on the internet.
