RE: ninadtambe

How did you get your unit working?

When you say you downloaded the firmware - we did you get it from?
When you say you held the reset for 15 secs - did you do it while the light was blinking?

Please help. I spent 45 min on the phone with a customer service person - no help there.

RE: ninadtambe

After reading through a couple of threads in the forum, I tried the following:

1. Connected my Vonage Linksys Router to the Wireless Router which in turn is connected to the Cablemodem. I powered on the Cable Modem First, waited for all lights to settle, powered on the Wireless Router then, waited for all lights to settle (since my PC is connected to the Wireless Router, I ensured that I got a good IP address/Gateway using ipconfig), then powered on the Linksys Router.

2. I waited for the power light to settle, and did a hard reset by holding the reset button for over 20 secs. Interestinglgy the power light didn't start blinking. However, I figured I had reset the Router.

3. I went through step 1 - and my router held the dial tone for over 2 min now (before it was only a min).

4. The power light is flashing away now - one can only imagine that it is downloading the new firmware. When this happens, does the phone led light dissappear?

Typically how long does it take to download the firmware?
My power light has been flashing for quite some time now?

you shouldn't have to restart your device as in step 2. look in http://192.168.15.1 and see what you have for firmware version and lines under the status page.

I can't go to 192.168.15.1 - since I'm going to the Broadband router through the wireless router. I wish I could do that - then I'd know what version.

The power light is still blinking - is there anyway I can get a new version of the firmware online that I could try (along with how to install it) - if that is indeed the problem.

I think my post a few posts up still applies here, both in the screwed device and the answer to the firmware update.
anyway, I would think you would be interested in finding that info out. just plug a computer into it. then you can set up remote administration and access it from any computer on the network.
of course it sholdn't be interrupted during the blinking power light, but if it's dead anyway. are any phones plugged into it? try taking them out, especially if you power down and power up the unit again.

John, Thanks - I'll try that next.

Whenever I power down and up the Vonage router, the phone line comes up for 2 min while the power light is stable. As soon as the power light starts blinking the phone light dissappears.

I'll try to figure out how to get remote admin working on the router.

John,

I connected the broadband router directly to the PC and here's what I'm seeing.

I'm able to connect to 192.168.15.1 - I clicked Status, Router, (Firmware version 1.27.01 Jan 17, 2005) and set firmware to factory default. I clicked Admin and setup remote admin. I power cycled. Through this process I lost connection several times.

Now, see the following behavior of the router.

- The power led is stable for 30 secs and then it blinks for 5 secs and then stabilizes again. While the power led is blinking I looks network connection.

This happens consistently. While I'm typing this, I see the local area connection unplugged message.

Any thoughts?

these router resets have been discussed a lot here, but I haven't seen any lately. markwi had a ton of problems, but somehow his was finally solved by setting qos to 512 (under the apps and gaming tab in the router setup). no idea why. here are some other links:
http://www.vonage-forum.com/ftopic2159.html
http://www.vonage-forum.com/ftopic2149.html
http://www.vonage-forum.com/ftopic2023.html
http://www.vonage-forum.com/sutra10359.html

why would you restore factory defaults? anyway you have or had the latest firmware, so the power light shouldn't continue to blink like it was before (not talking about this new 5 second blink problem). and I asked this in an earleir post: see what you have for firmware version and lines under the status page.
firmware is in the upper right hand side of every page. what I wanted under status was the Lines. just click status and you'll be in the right place. it may be blank. it would be good to watch it when it comes back from the 5 second power cycle (keep refreshing) and see what it says.

Firmware is 1.27.01 (at the upper right hand corner)
Status - lines are not filled with any data - since the power resets - it is had to refresh.

QoS setting in the Apps page is already at 512 kbps.
