I have been waiting over a month to get my phone number switched. The problem I have is that I switched to Vonage to save money! Not have TWO phone bills.
Does anyone know at this stage if I cancel my MCI, will I still get the transfer? If not, who gives a, just tell the family my new #.
And on that note, my temp "vitual" number requires people in my town to dial the area code??? Does this mean it is a long distance # for them????

I've heard some people have been successful getting refunds from Vonage for the months they had to pay both bills.

I am sorry that you are having problems. I have been through the same thing - only my LNP took 4 months.
After 30 days you can request a credit. (This will take a few calls or emails to get...) Vonage will be free from then until your port goes through. At least it was with me.

Dont cancel your MCI service while in the middle of a port - or even call MCI for that matter. Make all communications about your LNP to Vonage only.

As for the long distance issue that depends on your local setup.
Here in Tampa I need to dial an areacode from my home to work but it is free.
In another county here you can call across the street and it costs you 25 cents for a call.... and its a 7 digit dial.

The tenacity to keep your number is up to you. If you can live with a new number, why not? Change is good (isn't it?).
Is a phone number that personal/intimate? The reason I kept mine (and fight for 4 months) was my one child has a learning disability - I did not want to change so soon after he finally learned it.

melbourne...aren't you in the 321 area code? do they do 10 digit dialing out there already? maybe i am mistaken. i got a 321 area code phone number for orlando. did you specify Melbourne for your 321 area code when you signed up for Vonage? If so, then I don't think they'd be charged long distance...down here it really depends on your exchange moreso than your area code...do you live in melbourne proper or somewhere outside the city in brevard?

Las Vegas...I have been waiting just over a month to switch my phone number as well...Like our Vonage Mate down under, I requested/received a credit for my bill! I had to call at midnight to get through to customer service. Then after some wrestling with a supervisor he finally broke down and gave me the credit.
You do not want to cancel your MCI until the number transfers because you loose control/rights to the number once you account is closed.
You could lean down you phone service from MCI since you can use Vonage for your out calls.
