OK, I get a dial tone, I can even make a call, but once I make it it rings once and it goes away.... this is on both my Vonage accounts.

I've reset, restarted the units, nothing. I can receive calls, no problem whatsoever, just can't call out.

Just recevied a response this morning from a Tier II tech:

Thank you for contacting customer care. We apologize for any delay in responding to you.

The problem was tied into the line registration to the servers here.
Every 30 seconds, the the device sends a registration request to our servers to show that the device is online. Our servers respond to the device in essence saying we got your request, this device is authorized, go ahead. The problem was an encryption error. When the lines were registering they were getting the response of unauthorized. Which was why calls were not able to be completed.

If you have any further questions, don't hesitate to contact us.

Sincerely,
Anthony K
Tier II Representative

Well that would explain the outage, at least. Whole country down in a matter of minutes because the ATA's can't register. Sloppy programming on someone's part.

This was an email sent to dslreports@vonage.com. So, in fact, the response time is getting longer! I used to get a response in 4 hrs or less. Smile

The whole country wasn't down, just about 50% of Vonage's customers. I was one who was unaffected.

I have to chime in here. First off, if your wife is on YOU for bad phone sevice from Vonage, I'd say it time to re-evalueate your relationship, but that a different forum...

Now, on to the phone Problems. For a 3rd of the price of POTS and knowing the "backbone" of the system that Vonage ISN'T responsible for, most the time I will cut them some slack. This time it was their failure, and my backup system worked as they designed it and as I planned it. I started getting phone calls on my cell phone for a few hours and then they routed back to Vonage. I never reboot the system, it just seems to work. Sure I've had a few voice quality issues. For 3 months now it's been mostly PERFECT. THis is a somewhat NEW technology, and there are going to be bumps. Accept that and it you don't want that MOVE ON to POTS....

I think most people realize that, at least most people in this forum do. But then there's this little tidbit from the Vonage website:

"The greatest benefit of Vonage is simple. For less money, we can provide the same or better telephone service as your current telephone company."

So Vonage has set the bar high for themselves.

Actually, the wife acceptance factor is key, and it is the single strongest driving force of quality improvements in these Voip networks as far as I can tell Wink
