Uhmmmm, I haven't had any problems whatsoever today.
No outages at all.

Well, I'm a newbie, and I am VERY VERY satisfied with
Vonage
.
When I experienced outgoing call problem (long distance only) my computer was having trouble accessing secure sites on the internet, so with me, I considered it a non-issue.
I tried
Voip
years ago, and I cannot believe how much this has improved over the years. Signal and voice is clear and crisp, and there does not seem to be any delay anymore.
In any case, I am a satisfied newbie - and I found this forum as a result of my very short term difficulty with
Vonage
(first time in about 6 weeks) in getting long distance and in getting to the website.
The fact
Vonage
is willing to host a forum and leave themselves at the mercy of complainers is quite a testimate to their "high road" approach.
So let the seasoned vets note that not all newbies are complainers.
But that is my opinion.

Just a heads-up, this is not an official
Vonage
forum. It's an independent site run by long-time
Vonage
customer, Dan Connor. Unless there is a subsidy we don't know about, Dan funds this out of his own pocket, and we are grateful for his efforts.

He should be. Think of all the headache this forum saves
Vonage
and all the revenue it keeps for them.

Thanks guys.
Here is the "official" statement:

LOL, "Connor" was just flagged as a misspelling by the SpellCheck. I think I need to fix that.

Located this in one of the news services:
Vonage
Internet Service Has Outage
Vonage
, the leading Internet-based telephone service, suffered an outage on Friday which left about half of its 500,000 subscribers without phone service for about 45 minutes.
The outage was caused by a glitch with a software upgrade on Thursday night, said Brooke Schulz, a spokeswoman for
Vonage
Holdings Corp.
The problem struck at about 2:45 p.m. Eastern Standard Time, and
Vonage
stabilized the network with a software patch by 3:30 p.m.
"This was the first issue we've ever had related to software," Schulz said, adding that changes have now been implemented to prevent another such disruption.
Vonage
was the first company to successfully deploy phone service using the technology known as
Voip
, for voice over Internet protocol, on a wide scale. Only over the past year have the major phone and cable TV companies begun to deploy their own
Voip
telephone services.
The technology, which requires a high-speed Internet connection, breaks up a phone conversation into packets of data just like any other type of Internet traffic. The packets are scattered across the Internet and reassembled into sound on both ends of the call.
That mode of transmission offers multiple efficiencies compared with the equipment and capacity needed to connect a traditional phone call, so
Voip
service is generally much cheaper.
However, as evidenced by the
Vonage
outage, the technology hasn't fully matured to the point where it can provide the nearly 100 percent reliability of traditional phone lines.
Vonage
said about 50 percent of all inbound and outbound traffic was affected by Friday's disruption.
Schulz declined to describe the nature of Thursday's software upgrade, saying that
Vonage
performs software upgrades as often as once a week without issue.

i didn't know dan runs this himself on his own. Great job Dan! Rebus is right, who know the untold hours people (like me) have saved just by reading this!
by the way, except for lnp, my overall
Vonage
experience has been very positive. only wish i could have had a choice between PAP and P2

Post subject: not really a newbie...
I don't think of myself as a newbie, maybe on the forum, but I've been with
Vonage
since dec. 2003. and have pitched them to everyone, I have 5 referrals under my belt, and thus far been a die hard
Vonage
advocate. I really like the idea of channeling everything through the broadband pipeline, since it's there.
But really, they should've said something ahead of time, forwarned. At least 911 works. Guess they have emergency channels in place.
I will always be on vonage's side, but not sure about my wife... she's hard to please. She's hard to make understand...

Post subject: generally happy as well
we feel the same way--we've been with
Vonage
for over a year now and have had a few problems here & there, but generally speaking we're happy with the service.
it's still fairly new technology, so of course there will be glitches--but no, i don't think it always excuses them. but the outage yesterday wasn't a big deal (for me at least), it was just a reminder that it's nice to also have the cell. but the cost savings and portability far outweigh the other options for me.
however, without these forums life would definitely be alot more diffucult. thanks Dan.

I try to remember that technology has come a long way. With this progress there are "bumps" and mishaps.
I recall the story of Alexander Bell who was instrumental is creating the telephone. When he made his first call he received a busy signal.
Yes, its a joke, but with times like this, sometime humor makes it possible to understand.
