Does anyone have any ideas on how to wire an apartment? I don't really have access to anything that is not in the apartment, so I don't know where that leaves me. Thanks. |

First of all you MUST have access to the telephone interconnection box. It may be outside, in a closet, or in a storage compartment. Somewhere on the outside of the building is also possible. Wherever you find it, the wire to your apartment should be labeled.
If you find it, great, disconnect the wires. I you don't find it, I suggest you get cordless phones with several spare handsets. Here is how to do it:

couldn't you just get some wireless phone connectors and distribute the phone signal that way? |

I just picked up a dual handset cordless phone off of EBay the other day for $40. It was brand-new and 5.8GHZ as well. Don't know if you'll be as lucky, but it can't hurt to try. |

Multiple handsets work great, if you choose to use the wireless phone adapters that plug into the wall, be sure they are caller ID compatible because some are not. (If you care about caller ID anyway) |

luckilly my "interconnection box" was a phone jack in my apartment. it had two small phone wires hanging out of the bottom labelled "Test Line 1" and "Test Line 2" or something similar. all I had to do is unplug both of those and i was disconnected from my phone company!
I have never lived in another apartment that was this easy. if you have been living in your current place for a while/plan to live there for a while, you can try giving your phone company a call and asking where you can find the connection box and how you can disconnect yourself from their service. they may or may not be able to help you. |

Dont use wireless jack systems. Our website says we support them, and we do, however with most of them Caller ID does not work, and with other ones it will actually backfeed voltage into the RT and will cause very weird problems. |

all we did to wire our apartment (we're in NYC) was to cut the line coming in from the outside, splice it together with a RJ-11 jack (just a regular phone jack) and plug that into our Vonage adapter.
so instead of the line that runs to all our phone jacks going outside to the box, it's just rerouted to our VT. works great and we didn't have to do anything special or access anything outside. |
