When you call someone on your Vonage line, what does their caller ID say?
Mine gives the correct number, but the name says Illinois Call. Is it possible to associate my name with my Vonage account through caller ID?
Also, when I call my Vonage line from my old POTS account (only had it since late SEPT when we bought our house), the number is correct, but the name is the last owner of the phone number. This only happens with Vonage, as when I call any other number from my POTS line, the name and number are both correct to me....
Strange..... |

I have the same thing. Illinois Call with my number. I think there was another thread on this as it relates to the privacy manager type programs that SBC has. I don't think you can get your name to show up. |

I don't use SBC as my ISP, so that can't be it.
What about people in other parts of the country, is your Vonage Caller ID correct? |

Sorry, let me clarify. I have comcast as my ISP. SBC offers their customers a service called Privacy Manager. It blocks inbound calls that don't have an identified caller and makes you say your name in order to get thru.
As far as getting our names on caller id, I think we are unable to do anything about it now. |

I don't see where this would be a problem to implement. They already have all the info they need in the database to make this happen..... |

Well, I don't get a whole lot ot calls on my Vonage line, but the FEW I've had have all been correct.
My other Voip line isn't Vonage, they don't offer my area code but it only show up number anyway. When we lived in the Carolinas, our Vonage lines all worked ok and showed up the correct information. Cell phones showed "wireless caller" but sometimes you'd get a number that simply said "San Diego, Ca.) |

Inbound caller id is fine, outbound is the issue here. |

But in my case, inbound is a problem too. They have the right number for the POTS line, but the wrong name (I only know the name of the previous owner because people are still constantly calling for him). They need to update their database or something. |

This has been discussed in a multitude of threads.
Outbound caller ID will not display your name. Well, correction. If you do an LNP it might display your name for a while, although eventually your previous carrier will knock you out of the databases used for CID name look up.
If you are getting a weird inbound caller ID name (the old line owner), that is an oddity I've yet to see. But it's obvious someone hasn't been updating their CID records. It's not Vonage, since they have made it clear they do nothing related to CID records except run queries for inbound calls, AFAIK.
I'm oversimplifying, those other posts I mentioned would be more detailed and technical. either wait for reebok to give you some links or do searches in the forum for "caller id" and "display", I am sure something will come up |

Well, Vonage must be doing something with Caller ID, because if I call my cell phone (or any other phone other than Vonage) with my POTS, the correct name/number come up, but calling my Vonage with POTS gives the old name/correct number. They must be getting that name info somewhere, and apparently that database is old.
Since Vonage is our phone company, why can't they maintain their own caller ID database and pass that info off with the call? Is this something they will be able to upgrade in the future? |
