Receiving seems to be fine. I've got the two-line setup. At least 50% of the time the fax fails and my HP G85 returns an error of 323 or another "telephone connection too poor" and the fax drops out. Any suggestions or hints as to what's going on? I can receive okay, I'm assuming because I come home and find faxes, sometimes lengthy ones, in the tray.
Many of the people I fax to have to actually punch a button to initiate their fax and having to receive from me three and four times is going to get old fast.
thanks!

You need to be sure to lock the Baud Rate setting for the Fax macine at 9600bps. Anything higher than that and you will have problems. |

Ah, thanks, Todd. I'm looking quickly and don't see where that's a user definable variable, but I'll got to the HP page and check it out.
I do think it may be a problem specificially with one person more than anybody else, though. It might be line-quality issues on her end and not mine, but it seems to be a problem I don't recall having before I changed things around. UFL, she's my business partner and we do fax a lot of stuff back and forth to each other's house! |

I have an HP LJ3200 and I cannot find a way to lock the Baud Rate for sending or receiving faxes.
Another alternative may be using a web based fax service or alternativly you may wish to try getting one of the Fax line setups from Vonage. It uses the Phone Port 2 on the Cisco ATA 186.
Not sure when you order this if they configure the second port to operate at higher speeds. If this is true they could have certainly configured Phone Port 1 for higer speeds as well as voice and would be a clear sign that they are configuring Phone Port 1 that way in oder to get another $9.99 out of you a month for a Fax line. |

I found on the Cisco web site that the ATA has a known faxing limitation - that Vonage would not admit to - that requires a lower connection speed. On my HP 3200 I turned off V.34 (controls modem connection speed negotiation) and had success in being able to send and receive faxes on port 2 of the ATA. Has worked ever since. |

Troy at Customer Service also told me to lower the rate, but I have been unsuccessful in figuring out how to reduce the fax baud rate. Some faxes go through without any problems at all, multiple pages, etc. Receiving seems flawless -- rarely, rarely get a problem (the only one I know of was a hiccup from somebody who I know uses a large Voip system in their law firm, but she just redialed and it sent without a problem)
I need to go plow through all the specs for the G85 on the HP site. When I search baud rate, etc., I don't get anything that tells me how to lower and I can't find it on the troubleshooting or users guides in the HP G85 stuff on the computer.
thanks, though, and I'll keep digging.
This is a separate virtual fax number on port 2, so if I can find that it should work. (Now, I will say the one machine I have the most problems with is old. Maybe because it can only receive at slower speeds may be compounding the problem. I dunno.) |

Do you have bandwith saver turned on? If so, put *99 in front of the 11 digit fax number.
If not, what is the error code you are receiving from the fax machine? |
