I am in the 210 area code and have 4 Vonage lines for my small business. The first two weeks of service were great, no call problems. BUT these last few weeks, incoming calls have gotten very unreliable (I've had Vonage for a little over a month). Callers constantly get a message "all circuits are busy" or the line rings, but no one hears it on our end. I can also call myself and get the same problems almost every third call. I'm pretty sure this is a Vonage service issue.

I wonder how many other people have this same incoming call problem? Does anyone know if Vonage plans to buy more connections through local phone carriers for all the new customers signing on? Or is there another problem I'm overlooking?

Probably another problem, if this is a Motorola MTA just unplug it and plug it back in, if its a Linksys RT there might be a I/O error with the firmware. You would need to call CS and ask them to check the firmware.

We have 4 Linksys rt31p2 ATAs. The Firmware on all of them is the latest from Vonage. Similar to the problem they had in chicago a few days ago, I'm pretty sure its something to do with Vonage exceeding the number of connections they're allowed with the local carriers here.

Are there any other Vonage customers in San Antonio or the 210 areacode that are having this problem?

I have been having intermittent problems calling my wife at work using her 1-888 number, fast busy. And it doesn't clear up in the following 7 minutes that I keep trying. I figure Vonage doesn't have enough capacity to handle all the calls that must be happening.

And before you get a chance to explain the national 800 number access, I emailed the problem to Vonage, they responded the first time within 2 hours explaining the difference between national 800 numbers. I gave them the number and they tried it didn't have any problems and don't have an answer. That is why I think they aren't able to handle the call volume. Kind of like when all circuits are busy, meaning all that the carrier has bought is being used.

I tend to believe it's a capacity problem, because it's been slowly getting worse over the past few months. First it was rare, then it was occasional, and now during peak daytime hours it affects at least 1 out of every 3 or 4 outbound call attempts. The problem is far worse when dialing local numbers, so a capacity problem into the PSTN in this area would seem to be a logical assumption.

For the record, this is happening not only on my line at home, but on both of my brother in law's lines (he has 2 adapters, one for each line) a few miles away, and all 3 adapters are at 1.27.01 firmware.

Update:
Just spent 44 minutes on hold, only to have the tech support guy answer, repeat his greeting several times (I was shouting Hello, Hello, Can you hear me?) then he hung up. Grrrrr....

So we know its a carrier capacity to Vonage problem. Is it something that can be fixed ASAP? I would imagine so... Maybe just send SBC (or whomever their local carriers are) a request for more line capacity... Why doesn't Vonage do it? why don't they admit to this problem?

...gonna wait on hold and get someone to fix this... This should be fixed before it gets any worse.

if anyone wants to join me and get this thing a higher priority, call 1-866-243-4357 option ext. #2 ext. #5 ext. #5... Keep trying if you get a busy signal.

Also, its really strange how the Small Business Unlimited is twice the price of Residential Unlimited, however, the wait time is the same, the support # is the same, and all calls get the same priority... makes me want to switch all our business lines to Residential (not really, but you get my point)

Good news!: I was on hold for 15 minutes before they picked up

Bad news...: service rep was horrible and blamed any error messages on the current network problems. He said he couldn't test my equipment with the network conditions. When I told him the problem was with local carriers, he said they are trying to increase their capacity in all areas, but he didn't say when or exactly where...

I've gotten more helpful service reps before, so I'll try again later... I feel horrible for switching this business onto Vonage lines (with just two incoming fail-over landlines). It seemed like such a great idea until all these stupid carrier issues had to come up... If it continues, I'll have to switch back to $120 land lines and somehow cancel the (already overdue) number port...

Great job Vonage...

Anyone know how long it'll take to get larger carrier capacity in the 210 area code? Days, Weeks... Months? Cry

Vonage has little incentive to increase local carrier capacity. more capacity means more money out of vonage's pockets. Just keep signing new customers up and do not increase local capacity = more, faster growth.
