I understand the 20 day minimum. Quite frankly its just ridiculous really. I work in a porting department. It is wireless, but come one.

Thing is, someone is sitting on these ports. I called Paetec (because the rep told me that they were handling my port) and they said that Vonage hasn't even sent them the LOA yet. Therefore Vonage is lieing to me by stating in my dashboard that the LOA was sent to carrier. Heh.. They haven't even sent it to Paetec yet.... Mad

i really don't think Vonage sits on these lnp requests. they have no incentive to do so, because after the 20 days they credit you, whereas i'm sure they'd rather you already be a paying customer.

i do, however, think they are quite remiss when it comes to following up (see drewmie), especially when it's in their interest to do so.

You may be right... Problem is someone is lieing to me and Verizon hasn't gotten it yet.. Once Verizon gets it, I can get them to turn it over quick. Problem lies in Paetec, or Vonage... whoever it is that isn't doing anything with it.
Paetec doesn't even acknowledge that Vonage has sent it to them yet... Arrggghhh maty....!

99% of the time if your web account says "sent to carrier" it WAS sent. Of course errors can happen. Calling PaeTec does you no good because they have no desire to speak with end users and they will tell you whatever they want to tell you just to get rid of you. You should have never been given their name because it will do you absolutely no good and only slow down the process for everyone . You can't compare ports through phone (land line or cell) companies to ports from Voip companies. The fact a Voip company "is not a phone company" creates the problems (which requires a 3rd party in the middle). All I have been handling recently is LNP calls and I can understand everyones frustration.

Contact your state regulatory commission, whichever one is responsible for telephony in your state. Rebus had to get the government involved to get his number ported (search for his thread if you want details).

Based on Rebus' experience, I talked to someone at my state agency last week who told me to get the "purchase order number ID" from Vonage that was used to request the transfer. In my case I am leaving BellSouth, but XO is handling the LNP transfers, and this PO number was actually generated by XO. I called the Vonage LNP department directly and got someone who was willing to put in the work to call XO and get that number, and I provided that to my state agency this morning. A few minutes ago he called me back and said he got the transfer scheduled for this Wednesday.

Sounds like a lot of work, but they kept delaying my LNP and I got tired of paying two phone bills, and neither Vonage nor BellSouth were doing much to help me.

So who actually was at fault? XO, Bellsouth, or Vonage?

Well apparently XO. They had scheduled me twice to be transferred already and yet nothing happened, those dates came and went with no LNP and no explanation.

I'm still not totally convinced it's going to happen. But then last night I had a horrible call with someone saying I was cutting out constantly, so I'm not even sure porting to Vonage is a good thing. If the miss my LNP again, I may take it as a sign or a blessing in disguise.
