this has been discussed a few times earlier. some people get them, some don't. apparently Vonage can tell when an upgrade fails. I'm sure that wouldn't be hard to track, and then automatically send that email. but I have also seen people whose router was fine who got the email anyway.

I did notice today about 6pm eastern time that my phone rang, i saw who it was on caller id, answered, said hello, and the line was dead. I at this point hung up and had no dial tone then. I had to reboot my linksys and about 2 minutes later i had my dial tone back. before i rebooted, i noticed that my phone light was not on anymore at port one on the router. This has happened before about 2 other times, resolved with a reboot, but i have no idea why its doing it. I searched again to no direct answer. I thought it was from the upgrade each time, but when i checked, i still had the older firmware after the last to incidents.
My 2 cents again.

That happened to me the day after my LNP was completed last week. I have the WRT54GP2. My wife was talking to her mother on the phone adn they got disconnected. She thought her mother's cell phone battery died. At the same time, I noticed that my internet stopped and I could not HTTP to my router either.

I then picked up the phone and there was no dialtone.

I went up to the router and the line 1 light was off. I unplugged the router and plugged it back in. A few minutes later, phone & internet was restored. It hasn't happened since.

No firmware upgrade for me either.
