If I have my Unlimited Plan Vonage account in the US and a virtual number in Canada for the family to call. I know that any call from the virtual number to my home through the Vonage phone is free. But what happens if I forward the call to my cellphone? Does the cellphone provider consider the call as a local call or a long distance call? Will I get long distance charges on the cellphone?

Do you get charged long distance charges on your cell phone for receiving a long distance call?

If you forward your calls to your cell phone it goes by whatever plan you have with your cell provider...example I have Tmobile 500 whenever minutes unlimited nights and weekends. If I get a call during the day after 7am thru 9pm and I answer my cell it is taken out of my 500 mins. Any other time and the weekends it is FREE.

Thank you everyone for your help. To be more specific, my cellphone plan does not include long distance coverage. What I wanted to know is when I used the callforwarding feature of Vonage to my cellphone which is in the same local area as the Vonage number am I going to be charged for long distance fees?

It seems like otaku says "yes" and tyson says "no".

either you have the weirdest cell phone plan I've never heard of or you don't understand otaku's post.
your plan may not include outgoing long distance (you calling outside your included calling area), but why can't anyone from anywhere in the world call your cell phone (read: incoming call)?

Doh! I just reread my post and it did sound ridiculous. What I meant was: my cellphone plan does not include long distance fee coverage.

And to answer otaku, yes, I am charged for incoming/outgoing long distance calls. So I am going to get a long distance charge if I forward my home Vonage phone number to my cellphone?

What is your cell phone provider? I've never heard of a company charging you for receiving long distance calls.

If, for some reason, you get charged a different rate to receive long distance calls on your cell phone, and calling your cell phone from your Vonage number is a long distance connection, then yes, you will be charged long distance.

It sounds highly unlikely you'd be charged a higher fee to receive long distance calls on your cell phone, though. I am still a little skeptical.

My provider is Fido and based in Canada. In Canada, we have a system where both incoming/outgoing calls that are long distance will be charged fees.

I think I just get a new cellphone here in the US to avoid the trouble for the short time that I will be here.

In Germany you get charged for outgoing calls only. If you have a prepaid and no minutes...you can get calls all long just cannot call out. LOL. I miss that. But you do have a strange cell provider...they need to catch up with the technology LOL.
