Rolling Eyes I didnt push... I only pulled on the ladder.

I am glad to see this thread is getting some 'intellegent' conversation going. I thought we would all get bored to death with regulatory talk.

If someone died from boredom should we call 911,E911, PSAP or HUxley4-9890?

If they already died it's a little late to be calling 911, unless you feel the rest of us were still at risk. In that case I might suggest calling one of those 900 numbers they advertise on TV late at night.

Has anyone had this happen:

I called 911 to test it, I spoke with a man that said that I had reached an administrative line at the emergency services call center. He informed me that this line is NOT an emergency line and that it may or may not get answered depending on call volume and staffing and also that he had no information about me or my location. I have a ticket started at Vonage, but I read through the "Terms of Service" and found some disturbing information:

"You acknowledge and understand that when you dial 911 from your Vonage equipment it is intended that you will be routed to the general telephone number for the PSAP or local emergency service provider

(which may not be answered outside business hours), and may not be routed to the 911 dispatcher(s)
who are specifically designated to receive incoming 911 calls using traditional 911 dialing."

This is unnacceptable I need to know whether or not my call will go through, if there is a chance it will not, this service is useless and they should not even offer it.

Any thoughts?

Thanks for bringing this to our attention, as I was unaware of it. (I should read the TOS more thoroughly.)
The last time I dialed 911 from my POTS phone (accident on the corner,) I got a recording which informed me that this was an emergency line only and to dial XXX-XXXX in a non-emergency. The recording went on for quite some time, then repeated the entire message in spanish. Talk about unacceptable!
The next time it was necessary to contact the police, (Vonage line) I called the XXX-XXXX and was immediately connected to the dispatcher. I have this number memorized for future reference.
911 is a joke anyway. Look up and memorize the local number, emergency and otherwise. Rolling Eyes

I'm not saying this with a harsh tone, but more of a "let's settle this once and for all" tone.

You know what the terms of service are, and if they are unacceptable, do not purchase Voip service. Stay with POTS. It's really that simple.

Nobody has a gun to your head. You are the one with complete freedom over the purchase decision. If a product does not meet your needs or expectations, put it back on the shelf and walk away.
