Just got my new Vonage Service connected and up and running with my newly transferred phone number.
I called 933 and got the recording that said, "911 is enabled for this phone, and that I will need to provide my address and phone number to the agent"... I assumed by that statement that I did not have Enhanced 911.
I called my local police non-emergency number and asked if I can call 911 and see where I go and what info they get. The dispatcher said no problem. (I live in a township with a pop. of about 25K so not much goes on)...
Called 911 and my local township police dispatch picked up (the guy I just talked to) and he said my address back to me, and just then I heard in the background a police officer on the scene of a fight asking for assistance, so I quickly said thanks and hung up.
A few minutes later, he called me back and apologized for having to cut me off because of the fight, but then proceeded to tell me my name, address and phone number that came up with my call.
So I guess even though the call to 933 did not say I had 'Enhanced' 911 enabled for my phone, I guess I do. |

I've been calling 933 every week or so, seeing if they'd ever get me E911. I called this afternoon and got the standard message that "911 dialing is set up, but it goes to the emergency response center... yadda"
For some reason, I don't know why, I decided to test it just a few minutes ago, and lo and behold it is saying that I now have E911, and that it will go to a local response center, but that I "may have to confirm my address with the local center".
Yay! E911 at last!
Guess I'll be calling the local 911 op center's non-emergency number and setting up a test tomorrow... |
