I wonder if it is 4hrs of silence? I have made calls and left them off the hook over night and they where still working when i woke up? I leave the TV on and put the handset on the speaker on one end and listen on the other phone. I have had 14 calls going at the same time over night as well. It was for at least 6hrs! I will run the test again tonight. Its been a while since I ran the phones that long.

As for the Unlimited Calling thing. It does state in the TOS that abuse of the Unlimited Calling is not allowed! How they get away with that i do not know????? Its unlimited untill they tell you its not anymore??

It still is unlimited calling. You can call as many people you want and talk away with no charges if you have the unlimited plan. Even if the equipment released your line, just call the person back - it's no charge.

A business conference lasting for more than 4 hours? No breaks, no lunch? I would hate to work for a company such as that. A company who can afford to have their staff burn out can afford a more pricey POTS line.

For those people that have an issue with business calls lasting more then 4 hours, you have never worked in IT have you? I did network support for a bank and there were many times we had bridge calls open for 8+ hours at a time doing troubleshooting and what not with about 20 different people. This kind of of thing is not unheard of. Yes they say do not use for business but you know what some people are on call and have to call in from home. It happens. Vonage needs to document that somewhere if that is there practice.

I started in IT in 1981 and have worked for the telephone company, two major insurance companies, and now with the government - all in IT. Never once did we have teleconference meetings that went that long. Let's get real. The majority of companies do not participate in meetings that go for that many hours over the phone with no breaks. The few companies that do have meetings that long should not go with Vonage. Obviously if they are making their staff work like that then they don't deserve dollar breaks on their phone service.

So far as unlimited goes - you can call anywhere you want. There is no limitations on where you call. It is unlimited calling. It does not necessarily mean non-interrupted, but once every 4 hours is likely better than once every 4 minutes. Anything can happen with a Voip telephone. Your internet can go down, or can become bottlenecked, and all sorts of other scenarios. If you are adamant about have 24/7 telephone conversations then you should not go with Voip at all. The service over the internet is not as reliable as POTS, but it is pretty darn close.

I am happy that Vonage cuts of lines after 4 hours. The reason is because twice I have had phone calls not completely terminate. I called my 2nd party and could not hear them. It sounded like a jumbled mess of water waves. The other call terminated eventually, thanks to Vonage and their line releasing technique. Obviously that was put there for a reason. They are not just putting that there to annoy you. Any reasonable person would consider 4 hours a very long time to be talking on the phone.

Are we that lazy that we find it remarkable difficult to dial a phone number to reconnect with our party once every 4 hours? What's getting in to this society?!?

I understand Vonage has their reasons for terminating calls after 4 hours. That's not the point at all and the point is actually quite simple.....DISCLOSURE! I checked with 5 other Voip providers and they don't terminate calls....and maybe there are problems associated with not doing so...I will certainly find out. If in the future they felt the need for that policy, I would expect them to disclose it also. If I call Vonage and ask if their plan is unlimited and am told yes and then I ask if I can make a 4 1/2 hour phone call, they would have to tell me no. All the information disclosed to me, such as cable outages, were taken into consideration when I signed up with them.
The problem with society, and it always has been, and always will be, is that too many people believe everyone else should think and be just like they are. You don't always know someone else's story.

I would love to know who you were speaking with about that. I am with both Vonage and Primus, and Primus disconnects calls after only 3 hours for the same reasons that Vonage disconnects them after 4. There was a big talk about it on the internal Primus forum.

Seeing as Primus is one of the major Voip players in Canada along side of Vonage, it strikes me funny that you did not come across their 3 hour limit somewhere in your investigation.

I think 4 hours is a reasonable time to issue a disconnect. It is still unlimited - just warn the party that after a 4 hour conversation (which is quite unbelievably long) that the line may disconnect and you will have to call the party back.

It should be no big deal. Obviously if you have time to spend on the phone chatting for 4 hours, you should have time to call someone back. I know some people like to chat, but seriously after 30 minutes you probably said all of the important stuff.

Just my observation.
Crap! If I were talking to hottie Amber (of Survivor) and we had something going on at the 4th hour (like if she were just getting off on some tangent) , I would REALLY hate to interupt her with "well.... Am...Am??? Hey, let me call you right back" !

Bottom line, my forth hour is likely differnt thatn your forth hour, or my bro's forth hour.
