I've got the same alarm system as original post but it is not connected to a monitoring company. Voip is working fine but had to disconnect the alarm to get a dial tone. I managed to get the alarm to stop beeping but can't get the trouble light off which is of course the alarm system and nothing to do with Vonage. All of my wiring is Cat5 but the alarm plug is a cat5 cable plug and will not plug in to Vonage adapter - too large. Any hints or ideas? I've downloaded and read the alarm manuals without success getting light off so just connecting the thing should get the trouble light off. I'm too lazy to dig as deep as the original post.

If you hardwire your adapter to the Telco In connections on your alarm panel (RNG and TIP), and then use the R-1 and T-1 out connections to your phone or home wiring, you should get dial-tone and the trouble light should go out. I have the same alarm panel and that works for me with the PAP2 Vonage Adapter.

All my jacks are for RJ-45/Cat5e. So when I plug in an RJ-11 cable I have to use the middle four wires. I stripped a four wire and plugged them into the punch down block. I can tell which wires I put where later when I get home. Pretty much left to right as you see it in the RJ-11 plug starting from the 3rd punch down location in the demarc block.

I tried just pluging in Red & Black( Tip & Ring), but the second pair had to be plugged in also.

I just connected the Vonage router to a phone line in the house and it distributed to the other lines after disconnecting telco and alarm system - the new Vonage silver router I have has 2 phone adapter connections - ideally I could put it in the basement where the cat5 distributes but the alarm plug won't plug in to the Vonage adapter - could i purchase an adapter that will accept the plug and convert it to a phone line plug without getting into all that crimping? I have a patch panel for the lan connections - guess i could dig into that - it works and it may be a while before that trouble light motivates me enough to actually do something - lazy at this point.

If this worries people, it will take a Tech about 30m-1h to drop in an install to rectify all the issues...

We just happen to have several do-it-yourself'ers as Vonage subscribers!

Vonage is far from perfect, and being BETA testers for it (just like we are for Windows) can be extremely frustrating, but in the end, it will be users like us that will have been the pioneers of the Voip world!

Also, GREAT WORK and a thank you for TaZMaNiaK!

I thought I knew a decent amount about telephone wiring and in fact I hooked up my alarm system by myself, but this post is way over my head, I am thinking of just cancelling my Vonage subscription now and going back with a landline so I can acutally use my alarm system monitoring. It looks like trying to get Vonage to work with my alarm system (Ge Concord Ultra) is going to be a NIGHTMARE that I don't want to try and do.

If you wired it in yourself, you should have no problem wiring in your Vonage box. Basically, pretend that the line out from the adapter is the line from your phones distroubution box. It should be pretty simple to wire in Wink

Feel free to PM me if you need some more assistance

Now, the CAT5 jack on this end will not follow a standard color code. It will closely resemble the T568A code shown on the jack, in that the blue pairs are correct. But if you need 2, 3 or 4 line capability, you will have to change the positions of the orange, green and brown pairs for it to work correctly. I will use a slash (/) to indicate the stripe wire:

For Orange, you just swap the position of the orange wires. Solid for stripe and vice versa.

For green and brown it's a little different:

T568A Jack pin color: Wire color

green : green
green/ : brown
brown: brown/
brown/: green/

This is the only part of the setup which will not follow a standard color code. Everything else does.

This is a great post, but can someone explain to me why there is one non-standard hookup where the cat 5 from the Vonage adapter hooks in?
