Well,

I just had a bad Directv / TIVO experience and decided to order DISH network DVR. 100 hours, 2 TV's no phone required.

The whole tivo-directv phone thing is pointless

DISH NETWORK

Granted TIVO was more advanced from a feature standpoint but I got sick and tired of all the finger pointing and "it is someone elses problem" BS.

Dish network DVR does not care....

Series 1 owners (and not just Voip users) have been reporting excessive DirecTV dialing behavior. When you change the dialing prefix I believe your DirecTV calls will be made using that number. I have experienced more than 100 minutes of DirecTV calls per month.


Just curious if the excessive calls are still going on? Wondering if I can plug my phone line back into my Tivo unit or not. Thank you.

I use these settings on my Phillips DSR704 and Motorola Vonage box with pretty decent results...

Dial Prefix: 12122773895
Call Waiting Prefix: *99,,*70,,#019,,
Phone Available: Off
Dial Tone Detect: Off

It seems to be all about slowing things down. The *99 tells the Vonage unit that it's a data call. The commas are 2 second pauses. The *70 turns off your call waiting which will cause problems as well if you get an incoming call while your unit is on the phone. The #019 slows down your modem to a 19000bps from 56000bps.

There are also hacks (and pre hacked hard drives) available for many Directivo units that will turn on the USB ports and allow you to connect to both wired and wireless LANs with additional hardware. I'm going to put a bigger hard drive in my unit soon and try this technique soon myself.
