I understand it needs the phone line to do software updates and to send PPV billing info upstream. |

That is true. However, you can plug into a phone line at a friend's if an update comes out. Also, PPV can still be ordered online, just not via remote. |

I have had Vonage for about a month now and I have had no problem with my Philips DSR7000 Directv/Tivo. Currently I have the DSR7000 on the fax line and I have not had a problem with it calling out. |

I guess I'm confused. I've been reading this thread because a DirecTivo may be in my future, and I just ordered Vonage. The ATA that I was sent is a Motorola one, not a Cisco. Is this new? Or, is the motorola actually a Cisco ATA in a different box? If it's a different ATA, has anyone had any experiences with their DirecTivo and this motorola box? |

Changing the dial prefix to a telephone number may not be your best option if you are on the 500 minute plan running a series 1 DTiVo.
Series 1 owners (and not just VoIP users) have been reporting excessive DirecTV dialing behavior. When you change the dialing prefix I believe your DirecTV calls will be made using that number. I have experienced more than 100 minutes of DirecTV calls per month. |
