Just wondering how the quality is for users in upstate NY. I have had it for 2 months now and have not had 1 single problem with dropped calls or other features. I did have a couple bad RT31P2's but since got a replacement without the hissing noise.
My connection is on Road Runner with 5Mb/s down and 384k up. Road Runner in this area is pretty solid and have not had a connection issue that lasted more than a couple hours. |

I'm located about half way betweeen Syr & Roch and so far haven't had any problems, but I've only been on about a week. I've been a little confused lately about speeds. The 5mb d& 384 up is what RR is rated at correct? Do you know what you actually get? Mine seems to very drastically depending on which test I use, so which one do you believe? |

I'm in the Albany NY area on Road Runner, 5 mbps down, 384 up.
I just canceled due to inconsistent call quality during my two week trial. Biggest trouble was dropped packets and delay. My speed tests always showed good results. Probably 50% of my calls had these problems, and it was bad enough to impact the quality of the conversation.
Due to the issues people have been having with getting in touch with Vonage tech support, I did not even try to call them. Therefore they had no opportunity to make changes to try to correct the problem. It is entirely possible that they could have fixed it.
However, with the clock ticking down on my 14-day trial, I decided I did not want to risk going through with porting my number on the hopes that the quality problems could be corrected. I'm looking forward to trying this again down the road, when hopefully the customer service issues have been worked out and features like E-911 are available. |

speed tests really don't matter unless you're getting extremely low speeds (a la dialup). what matters are packet loss, discards and latency, all of which are shown at testyourvoip.com, detailed results. and hopefully they will be here soon too.
as far as roadrunner goes, I know they have always offered a local speedtest here in the tampa area. that's what you need to use to measure true speed. if they don't have one up there, just use your webspace to ftp up a few files to check your speeds. |

I've been up and running since December in the Rochester area. Very good quality up and down, using Vonage for all calls (I'll still waiting for my LNP, but I'm forwarding my POTS line to my virtual number). ISP is Time Warner/Roadrunner.
Only quality irritation at this point? --- occasionally my wife's voice will trigger DTMF tones on the outgoing voice. This is a known VoIP issue that's not unique to Vonage.
Now if I can get that LNP taken care of I'll be set...

I am about 30 miles south of Syracuse. I have Roadrunner with the 5000/384 service. I have been a vonage customer for around 6 months. I have occasional problems with choppy audio and echos. All the speed test I run are fine and my results from testyourviop are very good as well. I have set my bandwith saver to 50 and it has helped somewhat. At this point I would say on a scale of 1-10 I would rate my service around a 7. I think some of my problems are related to the SB4100 that I have from Roadrunner. They keep telling me they will give me a call when they have a new SB5100 to give me. It has been 2 months so far waiting for the new modem. That reminds me, I have to make my weekly call to TW for the modem.
I would be very interested if you folks could let me know your set ups are: Kind of modem.. router ect.
Thanks. |

Roadrunner as well with a Toshiba modem. I have a BEFW11S4 wireless router plugged into my cable modem and the RT31P2 (1.27.01) plugged into the BEFW11S4.
A few little chops here and there but overall I am happy. |
