Man I'm sorry, I tried...if you can get dial tone on the
Vonage
adapter, then calling them between 1 and 6 in the morning is supposedly when you get the best response, believe it or not.
Option 2 I guess is buying an adapter at your local retail store.
I really hope you do get it working. I'll try to help more if I can, but honestly...the way you had it hooked up initially should have worked (not ideal but acceptable).

i'm getting majorly pissed. after three attempts to contact customer service, they have all ended with a busy signal. how is it possible these people are still in business?????? my patience is running thin, and my cell phone minutes are running even damn thinner. i am to the point now where i would like to commit physical violence on the ass who referred me to this service.

Start here.
http://www.sveasoft.com
Pay the $20.00 for the latest version with support for your WRT54GS. Firmware Version: Alchemy-6.0-RC6a v3.01.3.8sv
There are tonsof QOS settings in there. I tried them set to the IP of the phone adapter for 2 weeks and now I have the QOS disabled. I see no difference. Also your ISP speeds may be a factor too.
I have a 4000DL and 384 UL, so things are pretty quick. Kids have PS2 Online, I surf the web, and talk on the
VoIP
, without any issues.
You can assign static IPs for your Phone Adapter, PS2, other router.
Change the DHCPd settings to enabled. Used Domain to WAN. LAN Domain leave blank.
add in your phone adapter MAC, IP and what ever you want to call it.
Example- 192.168.1.2 00:12:17:5D:EB:E4 LinksysPAP - In that order.
You Phone adapter will have a static IP and shouldnt conflict with any other IP in the LAN.
I actually had issues, but I didnt get as quite upset as you are getting. Also sounds like your very novice in this, but with time and patience, you'll get it.
Check out the MODEM. See if there are issues with yours. I upgraded and old Toshiba to the new MOTOROLA SB5100 and I have had no issues.
Just trying to help.
If I have missed anything, please post and I will answer to the best of my ability.

he shouldnt have to go that far....
if he is having problems with the phone adapter plugged directly into the modem then it points to;
-problem with the phone adapter itself
-problem with his internet connection.
no use in adding other layers of possible problems until he can get consistent acceptable service in the simplest of configurations.

There is no way i'm paying another 20 bucks to upgrade a router that works. I was on hold for 1 hour and 20 goddamn minutes last night. FInally got through, demanded a new router. Got my wish. Why am i still pissed??? they charged my debit card 100 bucks, told me they don't overnight, and that it will take 4 days. I f'ng dread calling them back to cancel. this has been a nightmare for me, and it seems everyone else. I have no clue how these people are still in business with horrible service like this. i just pray that the new adapter works and that will be the end of it. I don't know if i can keep sane having to wait on the phone, wasting my cell phone minutes, for that long again.

Not to make light of your issue, but you need a cell phone with free nights and weekends.

are you not going to try plugging the phone adapter directly into your cable modem? if so, let me know so i will stop wasting my time on you.

The old one had 1.26 on it when I got it and then it was upgraded to 1.27. The replacement had 1.25 on it (and a label on the box where another customer had returned it to
Vonage
!) and then it got upgraded to 1.27. The first router never worked, and the second one worked with both firmware versions. Going on two weeks now and not a single reboot.
