The Firefox Click2Call extension has been updated to v0.2 and now supports dialing from Mozilla's email application Thunderbird.

Select and dial from email messages or select a contact in the address book and dial any of the contact's numbers.

Thanks for the extension! I notice from your web page that it says it is reported to work from Firefox as well. How do I load it there? When I try to load extensions in Firefox, it just wants to go to the web page with all the extensions, and doesn't give me an install button to load from my hard drive instead.
Thanks again for the Thunderbird extension!

Nevermind. Found the other thread discussing use in Firefox. At least I did the search and found it so Reebok wouldn't have to do it for me Lol

In one of your posts you said it was not your code, yet your name appears in the "About..." dialog. Can you give me assurance this extension is what it purports to be, nothing more? Do you make the source code available?

Exciting new extension feature documented at the bottom of this post!

When I said it was not my code I was referring to the problem being experienced by a Canadian user. He was unable to authenticate (as are all Canadian users). Authentication occurs on Vonage's system. I was ruling out my code as the source of his problem.

I wrote all of the code to connect to Vonage's system. That is, I wrote all of the code in the Firefox/Thunderbird extension that you will download and run on your machine.

Here is the really good part. The extension is completely written in Javascript with XUL and RDF files (XML files). To view the code download the ".xpi" file and rename it to ".zip". Unzip it and find the ".jar" file. Rename it to ".zip" and you can see all of the code for the extension.

In short, all my code does is make one "https:" request as documented on https://secure.click2callu.com. Of course to do that it needs to find and format phone numbers and then modify context menus to allow you to dial them.

Thank you for your question. If I have failed to answer it, please don't hesitate to ask again.

New extension feature
No more selecting necessary!

Right click in a web page (Firefox) or email message (Thunderbird) and the extension will search the text for phone numbers to dial and provide a list in the context menu.

It will even find numbers not visible, for example numbers in the comments of a web page.

Automatic update should now be working, so if you aren't running version 0.3 already, try hitting update in your extensions panel.

Having trouble with phone number formats?
A lot of people have reported difficulty dialing certain numbers.

A new test page is available that allows you to test number formatting and submit errors and omissions to me for correction.

http://extensions.otabi.com/testNumberFormat.html

You must have the extension installed to use this page. It uses the actual extension code to format phone numbers.

If I am not mistaken, these test numbers will be billed @ 99 cents each.
Last week I dialed 206 555-1212 and Vonage socked me witha 99 cent charge and taxes and it was about $ 1.07 !!!

Umm, when I go to install the extension TBird tells me it is looking for an XPI file. I don't see any XPI files in this zip.

Update: nevermind, I got it. You need to download the zip file and rename it to an xpi file.

When I use this extension and I place my phone number, 650-777-1111, into the phone number field it doesn't update properly. When I go to the extension options again my phone number is showing up as null6507771111. I've tried a variety of formats and none seem to work (with dashes, parens, spaces etc). When I try to dial it tells me the number I'm calling from isn't valid.

Using version 0.3 of Click2Call and most recent version of TBird. Windows XP.

WCanyon..

Same here. I'm having the same problem. I got it to work in Firefox just fine though.

I've also rec'd some very long error message as well that reads:

" Unable to retrieve Click2Call settings. [Exception..."Component returned failure code:0x8000ffff (NS_ERROR_UNEXPECTED) [nsIPrefBranch.getCharPrefj]" nresult: "0x8000ffff (NS_ERROR_UNEXPECTED) " location: "JS frame :: chrome://click2call/content/click2callOverlay.js :: c2cFormatSelectedNumber :: line 87" data: no]

Any ideas?

ha...

If only I thought about it for another minute. I had to go into Thunderbird and select -> Tools -> Extension and select Click2Call and then Options and set my login/pwd like in Firefox.

Now it works fine.
