PostPosted: Fri Feb 25, 2005 8:30 am    Post subject: Phone Rings After I Hang Up Reply with quote Back to top

I got Vonage two weeks ago. Have had problems with my ISP telling me I was flooding them with traffic (I think reconfiguring the Linksys router with my D-Link wireless fixed that problem) and with sound quality. But one issue I want to address is the fact that whenever I hang up my phone at the end of a call it rings and rings until I pick it up (and of course no one is one the line).

Has anyone else had this happen to them? It's a bit irksome.

I had this happen with a corded slim line phone from GE. I tried a different phone and have not had the problem since. Have you tried another phone?

All my phones ring, I'm pretty sure anyway. I have Vonage hooked up to about 5 phones.

how are they all hooked up? To the house wiring? or a splitter to the back of the Linksys ATA?

If there are hooked up to the house wiring, did you disconnect the wiring to the telco from the telco's junction box?

If you are using a splitter I would suggest not doing that. I have seen some issues with that.

I knew enough to disconnect from the telco. I do have a splitter connected to the Linksys router's phone jack to which I have connected a phone right there next to the PC and into the wall to service the rest of the phones.

Did you try it with out the splitter? I know it sounds dumb but worth a try I guess.

What I did was I moved the location of the splitter from the wall to the router. Also, I think the ringback only occurs when we hang up a received call not a dialed call.

It sounds like it could be the Ring Back feature. Did you dial #5 after a busy signal? This will ring your phone back when both your calling party's line and your line are free. When you pick up the phone, do you hear a ring signal? What sound are you hearing when you pick up the phone when this happens?

If you are having this and you know you have not activated ring back #5 service, then you might want to look into swapping your ATA for another one. It could be a bad one. Remember that there is always one bad apple in every bunch!

Mine has done this in the past when I call and get an answering machine and hang up, my phone rings and the answering machine is still there. Also when I hung up after 6-7 unanswered rings it did it again and the other phone was still ringing. And no, I didn't push #5.
