I'm going to have call the support folks... I am at my wits end. My wife is very much against Vonage. It was a hard sell in the beginning and I can't say I blame her for wanting to cancel. The occasional ring back after hanging up was not too bad. But twice this morning she has called our daughter using two different phones and has not been able to maintain a clear connection. They start fine but degrade within a minute or two to the point where the other person's voice is garbled. I've had this happen to me too at other times.

I do not know why it's occurring, but I get it to.

I can tell you how it's occurring, though: when you hang up the phone, the call appears to not truly end. And since the router still thinks the other person is keeping their line open but you've hung up, it quick-rings you to remind you that someone is still on the line (or on hold).

My Vonage ATA does not do this. When I hang up, if the other party is still on the line, they get a fast busy signal. I get nothing.

It would appear as though this is a problem with your adapter, or with the way you have it hooked up. Is your adapter plugged immediately to your cable modem? If you have your adapter going through a router, this could cause problems. It is recommended that your adapter is connected directly to the modem, and then any routers, hubs, switches, and/or PCs to be connected to the ATA box. If you mix the order up, the results could cause you grief.

If your ATA is connected directly to your modem, then it is likely trouble with the ATA. Just like any other electronic device, there are always a couple that may have a problem. You should call Vonage Tech Support, and ask them for suggestions. If they do not have any suggestions, then you should ask to have a new ATA shipped to you.

I hooked my system up by the book. The Linksys router is connected to the ISP's modem. Off that I have a D-Link wireless router for my other computers.

My SBC service actually did this sometimes.

Some telephone providers (and I assume Vonage) have this ring feature.

It's so, for example, you call someone and let the phone ring for 30 seconds. No one answers so you hang up. Now let's say two seconds after you hang up the person just gets to the phone and picks up, your phone will ring so you can be connected to the person you called.

It sounds like this is what's your phone is doing, but for some reason is seriously malfunctioning.

interesting. I've never heard of that. do you have a link to info on it (sbc or otherwise)? I don't think Vonage has this. if they do it's undocumented as far as I can tell.

Mine has done this in the past when I call and get an answering machine and hang up, my phone rings and the answering machine is still there. Also when I hung up after 6-7 unanswered rings it did it again and the other phone was still ringing. And no, I didn't push #5.

I've got the exact same problem

I just hooked Vonage up today.. by the book, linksys router to my cablemodem.

I called my son 3 times, got his voice mail, hung up on the voice mail and my Vonage phone rings.. answer it and all that is there is my son's voice mail yaking on.. hmm..

So far, it's the only probelm I've had.

I've experienced the same problem also. It seems to only happen on my outgoing calls. I hang up and my phone will ring.If I call and get an answering machine and hang up , my phone will ring. If I pick back up, I am still connected to the previous call.It doesn't happen all the time though.
I really have never waited to see if my phone would stop ringing.I've had Vonage just over one month, and just recently it seems this has started happening.

Pay attention to how you are hanging up. If you bounce the receiver, that is the same as doing FLASH.

If you were to call someone right now, waited for them to answer, pressed flash on your phone to get another dial tone, and then hang up, the phone would ring you back. This is to prevent you from losing the original caller. Sometimes if you hang the phone up too rough, it might bounce the receiver into the cradle creating this situation.

Another way to avoid this is to press the switch-hook with your finger and hold it down for 5 seconds, then pick it back up and listen for a dial tone. I tend to hang up by pressing and holding down on the switch hook, that way I know that the call is cleared.
