I just received my iLink Router in the mail and decided to try to install it into my airport extreme system that is already hooked into my Motorolla ethernet cable modem (Comcast Cable).

I read what you all said to do and for some reason my connection is not working. The cable modem works, the router seems to work but the airport extreme is not communicating to my powerbook. I changed the IP address to 192.168.0.1 as recommended above and still could not find the server. Tried other random address to no effect.

Does anyone know a step by step process of doing this? I then disconnected the router and reconnected the airport and now I can't even receive a signal from the airport. I then plugged my powerbook directly into the cable modem using the ethernet cable and I get a signal to the internet.

I'm not a huge tech head, but if anyone out there can write a step by step process of hooking the router to an airport system and what setting to enter for the network settings would be great. It would save loads of frustration for those wanting to use Vonage quickly and painless as possible.

Also, none of you mentioned if you installed the "Getting started" software that came with Vinage and the router. Did anyone do this or did you all just connect the router, change the ip address and that's it?

Thanks for clarifying,

Haskell

Did you restart your routers and cable modem?? I think you will need to do this. Do it in this order (assuming this is the connected order) :
1) Modem
2) Vonage Router
3) Airport

It should work.

If that doesn't work...
1) Disconnect the airport extreme. Connect your mac directly to Vonage router. Can you connect to the internet? If yes, continue. If no, stop here and figure out why. You can post back here for troubleshooting this.
2) Now, disconnect your Vonage router. Connect only your airport. Can you connect to the internet? If yes, continue.
3) Connect Vonage router back to modem. Restart router
4) Connect airport, restart.

** When I say "restart" - i mean UNPLUG, wait a few seconds, then PLUG back in. Do not use the Airport Admin or router web control panel.

try to reset the airport - small button in the back; also restart your cable modem and the Linksys router; after restarting your AP Extreme change the IP to 192....; it should all start working; my set up is:
cable modem (Comcast)>Linksys>Airport Extreme (with IP 192...); everything works well - Vonage voice quality is much better than over the regular PacBell lines.
Good Luck..

Thanks for everyones help.

I unplugged the router, comcast cable ethernet modem and airport. Then I powered up the comcast modem, then the router and then the airport.

Everything works great and the Vonage connection is excellent. I didn't even have to enter in a new ip address: i.e. 192.... the airport extreme just picked it up.

Thanks again,

Haskell

Just thought I'd add some info. Did mine, Rogers modem to Linsys (router) to hub to Airport.

Once the modem and Linksys were up I reset the Airport, then used Airport admin to reconfigure. It easil recognized the Linksys and asked me if it would handle DHCP, said 'Yes', then followed the instructions.

Worked perfectly right off the get go.

Thank you Apple. Thank you Rogers. Thank you Vonage. Lol
