PostPosted: Thu Feb 24, 2005 10:19 pm    Post subject: Lost dial tone Reply with quote Back to top

Hi,

I replaced my SBCGlobal DSL modem 2 weeks ago. A week later, I lost my Vonage dial tone and was also unable to receive calls. I reset my Vonage box to factory settings and re-ran the Linksys RT31P2 setup v1.1 with no luck. I just received a new RT31P2 from Vonage today, ran the setup, and even though the setup completed succesfully, I still have no dial tone.

I read a post here and quickly hit the reset button on the Vonage box about 10 minutes ago, and the status on the admin page still says "Router still restarting. Please wait a moment.". The power, ethernet, phone, and internet lights are all solid.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks,
Lynda

I just turned the power off and back on the Vonage box, and the
Registration Status says Online. Still no dial tone though. I tested the phone and cord on my fax line and they work fine. I put my fax phone on the Vonage box and no dial tone. Also tried phone ports 1 and 2 on the Vonage box.

Thanks,
Lynda

so you apparently still have phone service from a verizon/sbc/qwest right?
that's what you're testing on that works I assume. and it looks like you tried 2 phones so far, correct?
on your registration status, does it list your phone number also?
no dial tone is pretty weird, especially with a solid phone light.

Is it possible she interrupted the new router during its first connection to Vonage? My understanding is that's a No-No.

there are about 2 major points and one or two minor points in the initial post that indicate that is not the problem.

I had a similar problem recently ... everything for me worked fine for two months, then no dialtone. I rebooted constantly and tried both here and cutsomer service and no one could figure it out. They finally just sent me another router, but ....

I also noticed the "Router still restarting. Please wait a moment" message, also which nobody could explain. For whatever reason, when I unplugged the router overnight and plugged it back in the next day, it worked again (although a new router was already in the mail). I noticed that my firmware had then been upgraded to 1.27 (though customer service said it wasn't a firmware problem at the time.), from 1.26 the day before.

Perhaps there was some kind of firmware glitch? Try unplugging it overnight and wishing upon a star like I did.

I am having the same problem. No dial tone using the Linksys RT31P2 after setting up a month and a half ago without any problems. It worked fine and then withouth changing ANYTHING the dial tone disappeared The phone light is on. I have tried everything imaginable - changing cords, phones, turning Linksys RT31P2 off and on, resetting the Linksys, turning modem off and on. Everything. Hours and hours of checking and rechecking. My internet connection is fine, the Linksys RT31P2 is connected to the internet. Etc. etc. etc. AND I have not been able to contact tech support by phone because they are too busy. This is really not good.

Anyway if anyone can help me I would appreciate it.

See post above. Still no help by email, on forum, by PM or by phone. And still no dial tone.

I have also lost dialtone and have had no luck fixing the problem. This happened when Vonage did something called a "code upgrade" on my adapter. An email they sent me said that I needed to disconnect and reconnect my adapter, dsl modem and router. If that didn't fix the problem, Vonage said they would ship me a new adapter overnight and give me a month's free service for the inconvenience. I notified them six days ago, but haven't gotten the new adapter yet.

I'm thinking this problem may be widespread and they've gotten so overloaded they have run out of adapters. Has anyone else experienced this problem?

I have the same issue as everyone else here. My Linksys RT31P2 working fine the last month and just lost dial tone. Tried rebooting many times with the DSL router and Linksys RT31P2. I know phone works fine and internet connection is fine. Any help would be appreciated.
