PostPosted: Thu Feb 24, 2005 5:55 pm    Post subject: Wireless router help question Reply with quote Back to top

I would like to get a wireless router so I can operate my laptop around the house. I think the Linksys WRT54GP2A-A2 is just what I need to operate Vonage, my pc, and my laptop. It says it is set up for call vantage with ATT is that a problem? Also, I just recieved my rt31p2 from Vonage can I return it?
What would be my best solution if I wanted a modem plus the above mentioned, with the least amout of units? Or is there a advantage to keeping everything separate incase something goes bad?

Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Thank you,
Chad

well it's really up to you. and that's not a problem if you use at&t call vantage. it won't work with Vonage though. you should get the Vonage version if you want to use it with Vonage. it's the WRT54GP2

I dunno if you can return it or not...I would say no unless maybe you complain about some issue with it and tell them you're buying your own.
that's probably your best solution.

Would I be better off just getting the WAP54 since I already have the router?

you could...what do you want to do ultimately? if you got that, you would have something like modem -> RT31P2 -> WAP54.

OK, I have given this a bit more thought. I am in the process of upgrading just about every computer accessory I have, and adding a laptop. I really love Vonage and just want to end up with the best system without wasting money. I would also consider buying a new phone if there were any advandtage or if one worked better with any particular set up.

Thanks

also, if I do go with wrt how does one make sure you get a new model with out the past problems?

this is all personal preference, so here's my ideal setup:
cable modem (heck verizon fios would be ideal) to the Vonage WRT54GP2 (that works well Wink to the rest of my stuff.
I would wait till jim gets his wrt from Vonage to see if it has any noise. there is a possibility that he just got lucky if it doesn't, but it may actually be fixed. so get his serial number and compare it to the other ones at the store. there may not be any with a similar number yet, as they would want to sell their stock before ordering new ones.

my second ideal setup would be with the linksys WRT54G and a Vonage pap2 (or rt31p2, it doesn't matter that much. I would stick with whatever device you have, especially if it works well)
