I signed up and got a new Vonage account, now they tell me my land phone number can not be ported, fine I don't mind taking a new number.

The current number is from a few towns away, can I get Vonage to change my number to a local one [my town] (the site shows they are now available)

What's the best way to go about doing this? Thanks

Should I just keep checking back? How often do they update the numbers?

If your town is listed, but currently showing out of stock, definitely check back daily. I've been watching a couple of area codes simply for the sake of curiosity, and see new blocks appear (then get sold out quickly) on a regular basis. Make sure you watch in the Features area of your control panel for near real-time availability, not the website which appears to be updated only occasionally.

Word of advice: don't rely on their email notification system. I signed up to be notified when a certain area code became available back in October. I've seen that one come available at least 3 or 4 times since then, and never once received an email.

I thought the e-mail utility was for those situations where your area code wasn't listed at all (ie 407, a very popular area code in Central Florida which is absent...but at least there's 321, the "new" area code). I think the 407/321 issue kept me from porting my number :/
