I posted this on the Tivo-community forum and thought I would give a try here too.
I have two DTV Tivos and use Vonage so I recently bought two null modem cables from 9thtee. I am using Windows 2000 and was able to successfully connect and and do my daily update on my R10. However, I also have a RCA DVR40 and I cannot get it to make the daily call. It will connect fine during the test calls etc..but when I do the daily call it always fails during the "configuring" portion. I have tried at least ten daily calls and get the same error every time. Any advice on getting this to work on my second Tivo? I am using 115000 and the dialing prefix of ,#211 and have assigned IPs. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you

Just to follow up to my own post. I tried to connect again this afternoon and it went through on the first try. I tried four more connections just for kicks and they all went through. The serial connection works fine so for those trying to enter all those funky codes that never work just do the serial connection and end your frustrations.

So what changed to make it work? I am still having problems getting the PPP connection to work.
Thanks

Nothing had changed at all. I just got frustrated with it failing so I decided to mess with it again the next day. When I tried to connect the next day it all went through..no changes at all! |

Well, I tried again today. I started by grabbing the mdmhayes.inf file from another machine and restored it. Then added the required 2 lines, and tried again. I thought I would need to start slow, so went at 9600. Nothing worked until I got to 115,200, and then it worked just fine. Even made the daily call. Finally! I can rest assured that when my land-line is ported, I can still get the Tivo connection. |

Robert/All,
I'm thinking of buying an R10 but Directv says this type of IP phone line won't work. What specifically do I need to do to make it work?
Thanks!

I had the R10 and it did work with my Vonage line. The only problem (and I am not longer with DirecTV) is that it was calling out many, many times a day. If you are on the unlimited plan that wouldn't be an issue, but I am on the 500 plan.
If you go the serial connection route you just need the serial cable to plug into a laptop/desktop and then setup a incoming connection.
I would try to dial out as normal. I am sure someone on here can provide their settings for the dial out portion on the D* box.

When I was with DTV my R10 worked fine with Vonage, never changed a setting. For the PPP I used this with my SAT-T60 and always had to turn off Zone Alarm or it wouldn't work. I could never figure out why I couldn't get it to work through my firewall, so I just shut it down for a moment, much easier. |

I have a Directv DVR R10 and the setting that I used that worked real well are the following:
Dial In: 212-238-4220
Dial Prefix: *99
Call waiting: *70
Tone/Pulse: Tone
Phone avail: OFF
Dial tone detect: OFF
This setup works about 90% of the time for me thus far, but I just got it figured out tonight. I got it too work 9 out of 10 times though when I dial out manually. I have the Motorola VT 1000. Didn't know what vonage adapter you had. you may need different settings if you have a different adapter. I am not sure. I hope these setting work for you as i Know how frustrating it is. |
