I noticed above that AspecTec has listed:

Phaser noise fixed with Shorted RJ-11 In Port 2

I wondered if that might be a clue.

Sounds good!

I'm very technically inclined so this will be of help. Can't say I know what the buzzwords or some of the abbrevations mean when discussing Vonage..but...

I'm a little concerned about losing service during a power outage or ever having to use 911.

I'll definatetly be making local and LD calls as well as testing faxing. If all goes well then I'll move ahead with porting my number over to Vonage and letting them close my Qwest account. Qwest has increased my monthly bill twice in the last four months with no change in service.

Comcast will supply you with a Motorola SB5100 SURFboard for about $3.50 per month in rent. Or buy one, prices range from $62 to $90. However, they can handle a lot. You might care to look into this as an alternative.
My local Comcast (San Fran suburb) told me the area stores are no longer carrying SB5100 - they seem to carry the RCA and the Nortel modems.

I picked my SB5100 up at the local walmart

I have a dlink dcm 200 which I have been fighting with for a week. Vonage tech support is not very forthcoming on fixes. My service is still not functional - suggest you use something else.

Is this the DCM-202? Not sure of a 200.

What kind of problems you having? I have read some positive feedback on the 202. There are good deals out there so it's enticing. I see Best Buy is offering a $30 rebate on the Motorola SB5100.

I just picked up the DCM-202 last week as my RCA seemed to be pooping out after 3 years. Best Buy has a 30 day return though and I see that this 202 must have been previously purchased and Best Buy shrink wrapped it to look like a new package. They boast they mark the box and knock of 10%. Not this time anyway.

Your DCM 200 will not give an IP to an RT connected directly behind it.

I'm running a DCM-202 on Charter Cable and my modem tops out at 2Mbs even though the specs say it can easily support faster than that.

I had a technician come out and check the line. Line was absolutely clean and we determined the DCM was the bottleneck. He was using his Motorola modem and getting a solid 2.85Mbs on my 3Mbs service plan.

So I'm returning my D-Link today and getting a Motorola at CircuitCity before the $20 rebate ends on Sunday. My dad is running a Motorola on his cable connection and pulling down a steady 2.80Mbs at his house.

Before buying the D-Link, make sure the store has a decent return policy. I'm not surprised to read about the D-Links that are repackaged and discounted. Mine's going to end up the same way.

Not sure what you mean by:

"Your DCM 200 (?) will not give an IP to an RT connected directly behind it."

I know that the IP address starts with 10. even though the IP assigned by Comcast is 67. whatever. I can login to it using 192.168.100.1 as well. I don't know what you mean by your statement in regards to RT.

Also, my speeds have been stellar. After the speed update I've tested speeds over 4Mbps through different sources.
