I have the following:

two Linksys Rounters RT31p2
Toll-free Vonage : 866-856-8954
Line 1 vonage(same as toll-free) : 847-748-2013-Router #1-
Line 2 Vonage :847-748-2014-Router #2-Currently not hooked up to phone
Soft Phone: 847-748-2015 - Laptop
Fax: 847-748-2016 -Router 1
ISP:Comcast Chicago Area (Very good speed, replaced DSL at Vonage suggestion)
Modem from Comcast - SMC8013WG
telephone: Old school analog trimline phone (repalced fancy Sony 4 line digital at Vonage suggestion)

Hopefully someone here can help solve the problems I am having which is I only receive some of my phone calls. I have key customers who have my Vonage #'s as well as my cell phone. They have all but given up trying to reach me on my Vonage #'s. Sometimes they complain of dead air, sometimes busy.

I test my Vonage frequently from my own cell. Sometimes it works...sometimes nothing.

Help me please

I have a similar problem. I have a regular and a fax line. There isn't a problem grabbing an internal line to make a call out. I've been periodically calling both fax and regular line from an external phone to test them. 50% of the time I get a busy signal and this is unacceptable. Even more surprising is that the regular line doesn't forward to my cel phone as it is setup. Is there anyone that can help with this before I give up on Vonage?

After hours of holding, I have finally got Vonage to respond that there is an issue INTERNALLY. They have put me thru the ringer, always pointing the finger at me and my setup.

The irony is that the issue they think they have really doesn't identify my problem. I have never mentioned caller id as a source of my problem

If there is any body who can help me it would be appreciated.

Jeff

I wish I could help you, but as you can see I'm needing it myself. I'm SO glad I didn't cancel my POTS yet or move the number. Cancelling Vonage should be simple. All I see is their advertising, indicating that they are trying to add subscribers. Unfortunately, uncontrolled growth can be bad as in our case. I don't think they are ready yet.

I went to your web site and tried to use "contact us" and all that did was generate an email. And you can get 1000 business cards printed for $20. So maybe "thousands" is a bit of an exaggeration? But I do feel for you.

If nothing else, get a POTS line, configure Vonage to send all calls to that local POTS number when your router is offline and then just unplug it. Yeah, you'd be paying an extra $25 or whatever for Vonage, but you'd have an 800 nunmber, you wouldn't have to change numbers or reprint anything, and it wouldn't cost you the thousands of dollars you're saying you'd be out for switching back.

I'm nervous enough about using Vonage for residential service--I can't understand who in their right mind would depend on Vonage for their livelihood. And I'm not cracking on you, because just from reading posts here, you're clearly not alone. But if you are in some kind business where any phone downtime costs you money and customers, then you've got to weigh the potential risks against the potential benefits.

I have between the websites you saw, plus others, easily 20x where the number needs to be changed. Literature, refridgerator magnets, stationary, etc.

As for the call forward feature, my cell phone (very reliable) IS THE default when the network is down.

So if you can explain to me why I would ever get a Busy signal instead of my cell it would be appreciated.

Signed more frustrated than you'll ever know.

Jeff

Because life's not perfect, and on the list of "most perfect" things in life, Voip is nowhere near the top.

I will gladly pay someone in Chicago $100 cash to walk in my office and look at all my firewalls, routers, equipment, computer speed, etc. and tell me what I acn do to optimize my chance of this service working properly.

I'm surprised you bothered to waste your time and bandwidth by posting this. A less vague answer from Vonage tech support today indicated that it was a local carrier issue and put in an escalated trouble ticket.
