With the Vonage box in place between the cable modem and a single computer I am unable to host a game server. No one can connect to my server.

Without the Vonage box (PC directly to cable modem) there are no issues. Others can connect to the game server just fine.

This leads me to believe the Vonage box is blocking or not passing along information. I understand it wont pass along the Voip packets, but it seems like it is preventing other data from reaching my computer as well. Are there some settings that can be changed on the Vonage box?

I have disabled all firewalls, and there is no router in the picture. The only thing that resolves the problem is to remove the Vonage box between the PC and cable modem. I have tested both configurations (with Vonage/without Vonage) several times, and know this to be the problem.

Help!

You should be able to open the ports up that you need in your Vonage router device. If not, try putting your machine in the DMZ (not recommended as this opens you up to the internet as though you did not have a router/firewall in place)

I understand now it has simple router capabilities. I've searched other threads, but cannot find any documentation on HOW to change the settings.

How do I get to the configuration settings in the router through my browser?

Are you using the Motorola PAP or the linksys RT31P2? Reebok seems to think you are using the Motorola unit but I don't see where he got that from (I could be blind Smile

Motorola

I'm guessing he saw it in the original subject line (VT1005)

I found the IP address of the router (http://192.168.102.1) in another thread (finally), but now that I'm there, I'm not sure what settings to change to open things up.

Do you see anything for like DMZ? Or FIREWALL? I haven't used a PAP for a long time so I forget exactly what it says.

There is an enable DMZ checkbox with a Server IP next to it.

I enabled it, put the IP of my PC in it, and did a test....no good.

I would Appreciate a reply, but wont continue until the morning

Thanks

That's interesting... unless natting (routing to your internal ip) is breaking the gaming session.... putting yourself on the DMZ should open you up to the internet fully on that machine... Just to make sure you did it correctly... how did you find your machines IP?
