Idea I have gotten those types of calls 2 times now on Vonage, the thing is that NO ONE has my number yet (only had it for 2 weeks). It sound like a fax...beep.........beep......and so on.
Also I have experiance that other have by having people NOT be able to hear me and I can hear them. This just started on monday of this week.
I beleive it is with Vonage. I am on time warner (earthlink) here in NC and I have very good ping times and 3mbps + down and 350-400kbps UP speed.
Any ideas about this? This is a Vonage problem, so why don't Vonage correct this?
also got a email about 4 minutes ago about the rate increase of .50 CENTS. The email is a lie actually if you look at it. They "claim" lower rates, but it is HIGHER per month. That is what I call FALSE ADVERTISING and that my friends is a agains the law! Evil or Very Mad

Also so far I am happy with Vonage, just wish they would not "lie" to you and the audio problem would go away! Wink

They are not falsely advertising anything in their e-mail. They clearly state that RATES are decreasing the indicated amount and that a new fee of $1.50 per phone number is being charged. A regulatory service fee is just that - an additional fee and is not part of their standard pricing structure. If they neglected to indicate the new fee in their e-mail, then you would be correct. However, that isn't the case and I'm relieved they are being upfront about it - hell they could just tack on the fee without giving us a break like other phone companies.

As for the beeping - do you have a fax modem in your computer? If so, keep your computer on for a few days and wait for that odd phone call. When you get it, run to your PC and try receiving a fax manually. If the call is in fact a fax, you'll be able to find out who is sending the fax to you to stop it. The fact that you haven't given out that number to anyone doesn't make a difference if someone has an incorrect fax number and you keep getting the calls.

Your voice issue is another problem that obviously many people have experienced. You should document the transaction numbers from the call log online and also include specific details about that call and immediate ping times DURING the drop out. This means running to your PC and getting ping times against Vonage's servers - not just some random address on the net. Internet weather varies second by second and it could be due to some crack head setting his bong down on the router your traffic is going through at that time. Until you have documentation there is absolutely nothing Vonage or your ISP can do for you.

Unfortunately Vonage brings in a unique variable with our service and it adds another layer of difficulty when solving call quality problems. Ma Bell is responsible for everything up to the house whereas Vonage has a huge gap they don't fill.

I disagree with you sir. Vonage email me, stated it's reduced rate. It MAY be a reduced rate per month, but the OVERALL price is increased by 50 cents. I consider that false advertising. As for the fax, I will NOT keep my computer on because I have seen others that have exprianced the same problem on this board. Therefore I can only assume that Vonage has a internal error problem that redirects faxes to a random number or something like that. Vonage is the problem here, and I am NOT going to waste my time in tracking it down. It they want to pay me my standard 80 dollar an hour rate to track their problem down, they can.
So far I enjoy Vonage. They have EXCELLEN customer service but NO ONE and I repeat this NO ONE should cancel their POTS line and just use Vonage.
This is just my opinion about Vonage.
They have problems and from what I have read, they are NOT doing anything about them. I am not the "only" person with the "FAX" beeping problem. The calls come to me private as well. I also am not the only person with the "mute" problem as well. They need to put more effort into solving this problem.
Instead of calling them about this, I have elected to email them. I am sure in time they will ge the problem corrected.
Again, although the email that I received stated lower rates, in effect, it is higher rates, the email is misleading at the best.
Again my opinion of the email.
Like all us citzen's I have the right to my own opinion about this matter. I have also addressed that in a email. If you allow companies to "walk" over you they will.

Well, I guess it was too good to last. Vonage is finally starting to sound like a phone company. "Your rate increase is really a rate reduction," and "We have to charge these new fees because of the government, not because we make money off it." Next it'll be, "The children-- what will happen to them if we don't charge you extra?"

As for Vonage service? Dropped calls, outright outages, erased voicemails with zero notice to include zapped outgoing greetings.

Yes, dear Vonage, jack up the price, then! Go ahead and start behaving like every other phone company. Only, as far as I know, I get dial tone from the competition every time I pick up one of their phones. Vonage can't make any such claim, and this price increase, couched as a rate reduction, is only adding insult to injury.

Looks like I'm soon to be moving on, and you know you'll think about it, too. The reliability is just not there, and the company apparently thinks we're all stupid.

Mad I received 4 more of those calls last night (I turned my phone off but I see it in my activity). I have had no problems with voicemail to my knowledge. only 1 drop call in 10 days and about 6 times where they could not hear me. I am making a list and intend on Vonage to give me some type of credit for all of this, if not, then..umm..packet8 will get my business or at least get a "try" from me.

I've tried turning on my fax machine a number of times when I get those calls but nothing has ever come through. I had assumed it was one of those annoying telemarketing companies that fax those bogus "free vacation" solicitations and they had mistaken my phone number for a fax number. But it never worked and since I've never had problems from my fax machine, it can't be a fax transmission trying to get through.

But, as far as it being a Vonage problem. That's just not true at all. I've been getting these calls for over a couple of years now. For a while, I was getting 5 or 6 a day!! I almost changed my number. And I only got Vonage this week.

I understand everyone's frustration over the rate increase, and I knew it was going to happen sooner or later. But, just my luck, they start the same week that I join up. I'm still on my trial period and it seems to be working ok. I haven't gotten rid of my old number yet, but if Vonage seems to work out, I probably will drop it. I figure that I'll be saving over $45 a month at least until they start tacking on all those taxes like the phone companies do. So, $45/mo savings till then is fine with me. Nothing good ever last forever. I just don't know how reliable Vonage is (and don't know if 2 weeks is enough time to really test it) but I can't say that my phone service has been reliable at all anyway, so I don't think it makes a difference to me. 2 months ago, I had AT&T and I lost my service for 2 weeks while AT&T and Verizon fought over whose problem it was. AT&T had the WORST customer service I've ever experienced and I will NEVER go back to them after what they put me through during my outage. Now I have Z-tel and just this past Monday, I lost my service and didn't get it back till yesterday. But at least Z-tel's customer service was great. But as far as reliability, I can't imagine that Vonage is any worse.

The BEEPING noise IS Vonage PROBLEM! I have had my same phone number for 15 years and have NEVER received one of those calls until I joined Vonage. I STRONGLY disagree. I believe Vonage is aware of the problem and just is not saying nothing about it. But it is a Vonage problem.
Why I say that? several reasons, one, it happened the SAME DAY I got my ata from Vonage, 2nd it has happened WAY too many times to be a "mistaken number"!! Also it tends to happen ONLY at night for me, NO telemarketers are allowed to call after a certian time (varies by state) I know because I was in collections for MANY of years! These calls occur in the MIDDLE of the night. Business's are closed and therfore do not fax in the middle of the night, so THIS IS A Vonage PROBLEM.
Anyone who replaces Vonage as their main phone line should really think twice! It is nice to have a "spare phone". Oh, also all of the calls are private CALLS. I have heard other people state this as well on this forum. When is Vonage going to take care of this?

I get those calls in the middle of the night too. I STILL get them and it's always been on my non-Vonage phone line. If it's absolutely a Vonage problem, how do you explain that I've been getting these calls for 2 years - on my regular line? And I never said it was a mistaken telemarketing number. I said that's what I thought it was until I tried turning on my fax machine.
