Just spoke with Linksys technical support and confirmed that "UPnP port fowarding" is broken on the RT31p2 modem.
Specifically, using telnet and tcpdump to generate and sniff the IP traffic, I have verified that this function is broken and confirmed it with Linksys tech support.
The following is a specific set of scenarios illustrating the issue: 1. RT31p2: Port Range Forwarding: Port 25->25 WORKS
2. RT31p2: UPnP Port Forwarding: Port 25->25 DOESN'T work! (note this should behave exactly the same as case 1 since the internal and external port numbers are the same)
3. BEFSR41: UPnP Port Forwarding: Port 25->25 WORKS! (note according to the Linksys the RT31p2 is based on the BEFSR41 firmware so the UPnP Port Forwarding should work on both)
Per Linksys tech support, something that Vonage did in the modified firmware has broken UPnP Port Forwarding on the RT31p2 device.
Note that "UPnP Port Forwarding" is important to me since I need to redirect port numbers to avoid *outbound* ports blocked by my employer (e.g., 22, 25) and *inbound* ports blocked by my ISP (e.g., 80).
NOTE I SUBMITTED A BUG REPORT [1188043] ON THIS TO Vonage 3 WEEKS AGO BUT HAVE NOT HEARD ANYTHING BACK FIXING, CONFIRMING, OR EVEN ACKNOWLEDGING THIS BUG REPORT. |

I have this problem as well. Any further word?
Also, it appears that the Remote Administration feature is similarly broken. |

well that explains why i haven't been able to connect to the remote admin of the wireless router i placed behind the RT31P2. I guess I'll use port range forwarding instead.
i CAN connect to the remote admin of the RT31P2, however.... |

I loved that my D-Link wireless router would allow me to forward port 80 from the outside world to port 8080 on my Dev Station inside. I thought I had figured out how to do this with the Linksys Voip, but it is broken?!?! I've been pulling my hair out for 3 days.
Oh, well. I guess I have to move my tightened security instance of apache to port 80 and my general apache to 8080. But that just makes it a pain to have to type the port every-time I want to access it locally.
Vonage, please fix this!! |

The same problem seems to exist with the WRT54GP2 wireless router...when I run an nmap probe of the router from the outside, none of my "activated" ports (80, 443, 23, 21) from the router configuration even show up...they're all stealthed.
The configuration is identical to the setup I previously used in my BEFW11S4 router without any problem...so it appears Vonage has broken something in the Linksys firmware. |

I have the WRT54GP2 and had to turn off UPnP because my wireless was disconnecting every 30 minutes or so. Are these related, and do I need UPnP? |

UPnP and Remote Administration are two different and independent functions that do not rely upon each other. If you enable Remote Adminstration, and choose a port (default is 8080), it should work fine as long as you reference a valid hostname or IP address, ie www.tronixx.net:8080 I have no problem, and I received my router on June 16th. I'm sure you know you can't access your router via port 8080 or whatever port you use for Remote Administration if you are "inside" your network. Good Luck. |
