Speaking for myself, I am not interested in remote administration. I just need UPnP to work. |

I'd be happy to test my router for you. However, since I don't use UPnP port forwarding (just Port Range Forwarding), I'm not sure how to test it.
I am running several websites and other IP services, so if you have a test you'd like me to perform, just send me a private message and I'll perform it. |

I will be happy to send you a PM if you like, but the test would not be complicated. Just send someone a file via MSN Messenger. If a 1 meg file takes all day, then UPnP is not working!
Of course, you need to be working with someone who is either connected directly to their cablemodem (no router), or someone with a working UPnP router. I would offer to participate, but sadly, mine does not work. |

ok, let me cut to the chase.
do i need to enable upnp on my adapter? upnp was already enabled on my wrt54gs router and the adapter is after that. i dont see any documentation describing what i need upnp for.
in regards to remote access: i cant simply use the routers ip address (such as 192.168....?)? if not , what do i need to type in the address bar to be able to access the routers? i thought all you had to do was enter the routers ip address and the port , i.e. 8080, 8081, etc..
i can access them fine at home in the network but not outside of the network.
thank you. |

Tronixx: In regards to Remote Administration, you can't use 192.168.x.x to reference the router when you are, let's say, at work. 192.168.x.x is a private address that can only be seen on the "inside" of your router, or when you are at home. You will need to enter the IP address that your ISP has assigned to the router, or the public address. If your public address is dynamic, or changes from time to time, you can get a hostname from a service like http://www.dyndns.org for free. This will allow you to reference your router with the same hostname from any public location to perform remote administration. Moreover, your router supports this feature. In regards to UPnP, I recommend reading the following to better determine your requirements for UPnP: http://www.upnp.org/ http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/using/setup/expert/crawford_02july22.mspx Good Luck |

Those UPnP links/info are more fun when one has a router that actually supports UPnP! Sadly, the RT31P2 does not appear as a UPnP device in Network Connections. |

I'm not sure what firmware rev you guys are on (I'm on 1.28.00) but none of my port forwarding features are working (Port Range or UPnP). It's pretty frustrating. I know it's not my computer that is dropping the packets cuz nothing shows up in any of the logs and everything worked fine with my other routers (Apple AirPort and WRT54G). |

I have the same firmware version.
It looks like most Vonage customers don't care about UPnP...this thread has not gotten much response...and half of the responses have been on a different subject. It would be nice to get those unrelated posts into their own thread(s)...but I guess there is no moderator either.
The lack of UPnP support remains a problem for me, so if Vonage doesn't just happen to fix it pretty soon, I will need to consider other options. SW Bell is offering some screaming deals in our area right now, so as Vonage's technical and support issues continue ad nauseam, my interest in alternatives continues to grow.

I went through this with both Vonage and linksys, when I wanted to host a VPN server. Firmware that Vonage installs does not support. Eventually had to install a wireless g linksys router and then piggyback the Vonage router in order for it to work. |
