Hello, I've had Vonage for a couple weeks. Everything has been great, but today, this is happening:

1) If I make an outbound call, the person I'm calling can't hear me (happens on some calls but not all). Usually I can hear them.

2) If I receive a call, I can hear the caller, but they can't hear me. (This is happening 100% of the time with inbound calls)

I've done the adapter power reset procedure a few times, with no luck. My router is cool, my adapter seems okay (Linksys PAP2 v2.0.11b), my DSL is good, ran a speed test and I'm fine...but no solution. Nothing has changed on my LAN. I called Vonage, waited two hours on hold, got a customer rep who said they were doing callbacks and would call me within 3 hours. Never heard from them. Help! Sad Does anybody know if there's a "trick" to resetting the adapter more fully?

reboot router, Cable modem, and PAP2

shoud resolve it.. Sometimes your unit gets a DOS attack and does that..

I put mine behind a router for DOS protection

Thanks McDowell, I've tried that...no luck.

My PAP2 technically is behind the router firewall -- it's getting a 10.x.x.x address from the router via DHCP.

But, I have the port forwarding stuff enabled in the router for the various ports mentioned in the manual. UDP 10000-20000, UDP 5600-5601, etc...should I turn the port forwarding off?

I did not do that with mine.. and it works 100%..

Cable - Linksys Router - Vonage VOIP..

I left the VT1005t (VOIP) default. (Dynamic IP)
Also, no port fowarding done on the router ..

all you can do is try.. ALSO make sure that your security settings is not killing the IP

Ok...I don't believe this. I was on hold with Vonage customer service for 2.5 hours, and I finally got through to a human being.

This woman I was speaking with says she checked the firmware and it needs to be updated. She tells me she has done the update, and says unplug the device to reboot it. The lights were still flashing all over the PAP2, all the blue lights were flickering (we were talking on my cell phone so it wasn't the normal activity lights), as if maybe it were still receiving a firmware update, so I asked her, should I wait, she says no just reboot it. So I do it. When I plug it back in, there's a solid red power light, and a solid blue ethernet light, and nothing else. So I ask her, "was the firmware update done? It doesn't seem to be doing anything." She's says "I don't know". I'm surprised by this. So I ask, "can you fix this", and she says, "No. It's probably dead. You'll have to buy another one." I am absolutely ASTOUNDED at this. So I say, "May I please speak with your supervisor?", and you know what she does?

SHE HANGS UP ON ME.

CAN YOU BELIEVE THAT?

I AM SO UNBELIEVABLY PISSED OFF RIGHT NOW. Who are these people? This Vonage service was going so well until this problem cropped up, and now my phone adapter is dead and I am advised to buy another one because she didn't know how to do a firmware update?

Right this moment I'm on hold to reach customer service again, it'll probably take two hours, and GOD HELP ME I hope I can reach a manager or supervisor.

I really wanted this to work out...but this is REALLY BAD. Customer service is unreachable, and clearly the people they have hired are TOTALLY INCOMPETENT.

And another update...

Got through to customer service again...this customer service person was very helpful. He said he had no idea why the incompetent employee I previously spoke with updated my firmware. He said she actually applied a firmware update that was old and corrupted the PAP2 and it is now in fact completely dead. He also said she hadn't left her name on the account notes, so he/Vonage had no way of knowing what employee had done this. Man....you can really tell how a company is put together by how they handle a problem, and this experience tells me that Vonage is putting employee training and customer service a distant second to their efforts to overwhelm themselves with new customers.

Also, this last guy I spoke with said Vonage can't ship me a replacement PAP2 because they don't distribute the Linksys devices, so I have to go swap it at Frys where I bought it.

He gave me one month of credit for my trouble. Now I need to go get a replacement PAP2, call Vonage, hold for 1-2 hours, give them the MAC address of the new PAP2, and pray it works and hope I never have to go through this again.

If it does happen again, I'm bailing on this concept entirely.

I still cannot believe that incompetent little $%&*% hung up on me after she fried my PAP2. Just unbelievable.
