It has been hit or miss when I try and call people in Australia. I am wondering if I am doing something wrong.
I dial the number like this;
011 61 8 12345678
I have been able to make this call previously in the past using the same format. All I get now is an American sounding busy signal.
Also- When I am able to place the call what ring style should I be hearing- the country that I am dialing, or the usual American ring?
Thanks! |

From my experience, the sound is the location you are calling. The exception is if the person you are calling is also on Vonage, then it is a American ring. |

I made a call to Australia yesterday using the same number format you did (to a mobile phone actually). It started off with an American-style ring, then it went to a different ring style. The call went through OK, though the person I called said I sounded like I was really far away from the phone (they sounded fine to me). |

I've had the same experince with the rings when I place international calls. .I rememebr reading somewhere on this forum that "the Vonage server/TA will give you a ring while it actually tries to connect the call" ie. the American ring which u hear at the start is generated by the server while it tries (in the background) to connect to ur number...once it has connected, u will hear the ring from the destination number. |

you sure that is the full number? 011 is to dial out the u.s. and 61 is the country code for australia. (81)234-5678 is all?? it seems like you are missing a number??
i found this australian hotel number 02 9631 3461. it is still ten digits, so if i wanted to dial it i would have to press 011-61-02-9631-3461 however i may be wrong |

Two places,
Wagin, Western Australia and Perth.
I was successful in making the call to Wagin last night. I dialed-
011 61 8 12345678
However, the ring was an American ring all the way until the call was answered. |
